jacob's ladder remake release date

The unnecessary Jacob’s Ladder remake was supposed to open earlier this year, but was pulled from its release window at the last minute. Now it looks like we’ll finally have a chance to see it this summer. Vertical Entertainment just picked up the rights to the film, and plan to release it this summer. This Jacob’s Ladder is being described as a “reimagining” of the 1990 horror movie of the same name. This new take, directed by David M. Rosenthal, will tell a completely different story, and change the original movie’s famous twist ending.

Jeff Buhler interview

It’s no small feat to try to adapt the words of Stephen King. Many have tried, and many have failed – and failed spectacularly. When it came time to adapt King’s Pet Sematary to the screen for the first time, King took it upon himself to pen the script. Now, the 2019 Pet Sematary is in the hands of Jeff Buhler, the screenwriter behind The Midnight Meat Train and this year’s killer kid flick The Prodigy.

I spoke with Buhler about the major changes the script makes to King’s work, as well as the book elements that were essential to add into the film, including Pascow, Zelda and the Wendigo. I also asked him about two other horror scripts he had a hand in: the upcoming remakes of The Grudge and Jacob’s Ladder.

Potential spoilers follow.

jacob's ladder remake ending

The Jacob’s Ladder remake has been delayed several times now, but sooner or later, audiences will have a chance to see it. And when they do, they’re going to be in for a surprise – if they’re familiar with the original film. Because the famous twist ending from Adrian Lyne’s 1990 nightmarish thriller has been changed. In the grand scheme of things, this make sense, because fans of the original movie would already know how this remake would end. But this whole thing asks a question: why remake Jacob’s Ladder at all?

Jacob's Ladder remake

I haven’t seen the original Jacob’s Ladder, but as a long-time listener of the movie podcast How Did This Get Made, I feel like I know everything I need to about it. One of that show’s co-hosts, actor Jason Mantzoukas, seems to be constantly wondering if the terrible movies he and fellow hosts watch on the podcast are presenting “Jacob’s Ladder scenarios,” alluding to the twist ending of the 1990 psychological thriller that starred Tim Robbins.

Now it looks like Mantzoukas may have to start clarifying which version of the movie he’s talking about, because a Jacob’s Ladder remake is in the works – but a new report says it’s been delayed from its planned February 2019 release date. Read More »

The Prodigy trailer

Orion Pictures is often fondly remembered as the mid-size distributor that released four Oscar winners throughout the 1980s and ’90s (The Silence of the Lambs, Dances with Wolves, Amadeus, and Platoon) and tons of other great films ranging from RoboCop to The Terminator. But those rose-tinted reflections can overshadow the fact that the company also put out movies like Mac and Me and Johnny Be Good. Hey, not everything can be a winner. After going out of business in the late 1990s, Orion was resurrected in 2013 and has been steadily releasing movies you’ve never heard of ever since.

Now they’re kicking off 2019 with The Prodigy, a new horror film starring Orange is the New Black‘s Taylor Schilling and Jackson Robert Scott, the kid who played Georgie in the 2017 adaptation of Stephen King’s It. Will this be a new classic or be doomed to the wasteland of bland horror movies? Check out the newest trailer below and judge for yourselves. Read More »
