I had completely forgotten that Glen Powell was writing a Captain Planet movie. We first wrote about that news about two years ago, after Powell’s breakout role in Richard Linklater’s college baseball comedy Everybody Wants Some!! but long before he earned Internet’s Boyfriend status with his role in Netflix’s romantic comedy Set It Up and snagged a role alongside Tom Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick.
But in a new interview, Powell has given some insight into his take on a film adaptation of the 1990s eco-friendly cartoon, and he calls his script “subversive” and “irreverent”. Keep reading for more of his comments about his Captain Planet movie.

Fans who loved harnessing the power of Earth, fire, wind, water and heart haven’t been able to relive all the adventures of their hero Captain Planet on home video because only the first season of the animated series has been available on home video. But next month, every single episode will be available.
Captain Planet and the Planeteers, which would later go on to be called The New Adventures of Captain Planet, as well as The All New Adventures of Captain Planet (in case you thought some of them were old adventures) will have all six seasons of the animated series available for digital download. Well-known, environmentally conscious cartoon series Captain Planet and the Planeteers might finally be making a leap to the big screen. The story of five kids from different continents who are given powers to fight pollution, and combine to make the titular superhero, ran for over 100 episodes in the mid-’90s. Since then, producers have tried to bring it to big and small screens alike, with Funny or Die getting the closest by actually casting Don Cheadle to parody the character.
