Everything is round, and shiny, and innocuous in an Illumination movie. The animation studio behind Despicable Me and The Secret Life of Pets delivers films with no sharp corners, no rough edges, only a soft plumpness that recalls a plush toy or a baby-proofed house. And The Grinch, the adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ classic Christmas story, fits right into that mold.

The Winter Olympics have commenced, bringing with them our first real look at The Grinch. Dr. Seuss’ immortal Christmas thief has already seen one big screen treatment before, via Ron Howard’s candy-colored nightmare adaptation of How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Pets

The folks that created the Minions are preparing to bring you another adventure involving adorable animated critters. Louis C.K., Kevin Hart, and Eric Stonestreet (Modern Family) have joined the voice cast of an untitled Universal Studios / Illumination Entertainment picture about pets in New York City.

At the helm are Chris Renaud, who co-directed both Despicable Me movies, and Yarrow Cheney, who co-directed the adorable Minion mini-movie “Puppy.” Seriously, if you still haven’t seen that short, do so. It’s the cutest thing I saw all last year. Hit the jump for more details on their new project.
