Certain core facts about Batman don’t change much from incarnation to incarnation. You can pretty much always count on his parents being dead, his alter ego being a millionaire playboy, and his costume consisting of a dramatic cape and pointy bat ears. But the details change every time he launches a new comic book miniseries or movie franchise, and Ben Affleck‘s version in the upcoming Man of Steel sequel will be no different.

While it’ll be some time yet before Warner Bros. unveils the first official look at the Batfleck, a new report suggests that a 2011 graphic novel titled Batman: Noël could hold the key to his latest look. And he isn’t the only one getting a makeover for the new film. General Motors is reportedly working on his new Batmobile, while an army of costume designers is revamping the Superman suit. The real Batman vs. Superman won’t hit theaters for another two years, but while we wait comedian Pete Holmes offers his own vision for us to ponder. In his Batman vs. Superman, the Man of Steel proposes a team-up — only for the Caped Crusader to shoot him down, dismissing him as “fucking whitebread.”

The gloves come off at that point, as they bicker about their secret identities, their symbols, and their dead parents (“Get over your dead parents already!”) Commissioner Gordon even gets involved, though he’s frankly not much help either. Check it out after the jump.

Tom Hanks

You’d think an actor as popular, talented, and versatile as Tom Hanks would have his pick of the roles, and it’s true he’s had some interesting parts over the years. But in a recent interview, Hanks reveals that the one job he can’t seem to get is as a comic book superhero. “God, I want to throw a shield at somebody,” he said. He named The Flash as a dream role, but said he’d also be up for playing a Batman villain. Hit the jump to read Hanks’ comments.

Batman Superman

At last month’s San Diego Comic-Con, Warner Bros. announced their plans for a Batman vs. Superman film by reading a passage from Frank Miller‘s comic book classic The Dark Knight Returns. Judging by the deafening roar and frantic tweeting that followed, the news was a welcome shock for fans the world over. That includes Miller himself, who apparently had no idea about the studio’s plans to pit the characters against one another.

Now that they’ve been revealed, however, the comic book author / artist is ready to get involved with the new film. Indeed, he’s reportedly scheduled a meeting with director Zack Snyder to “go over the plans” for the project. Whatever that means. More on their planned discussion after the jump.

Batman vs Superman

The news that Batman would appear opposite Superman in Zack Snyder‘s follow up to Man of Steel shook the movie community to its core Saturday morning. If you don’t believe me, listen to the reaction here. Now that we know the movie is happening, the more specific questions can begin, such as casting and the title.

Speaking on a Superman anniversary panel the film’s writer, David Goyer, said he believes the film will not be called Man of Steel 2, or Batman and Superman, and certainly not The Dark Knight Returns (pictured above in animated form).

Goyer said the film will either be Batman vs. Superman or Superman vs. Batman. Read More »
