Rings‘ release date has been kicked around more times than a soccer ball. Okay, maybe not that many times, but four delays is telling. Originally scheduled to open in the fall of 2015, the sequel then got moved to spring 2016, and then it got bumped back again to the autumn of 2016. That last release date didn’t work out, either, so director F. Javier Guitérrez‘s horror film is finally coming out this Friday. Days before Rings hits theaters its heavily promoted plane sequence has made its way online.
Below, watch the first three minutes of Rings.

Paramount has delayed Rings no fewer than four times. First it was supposed to open in fall 2015, then spring 2016, then fall 2016. Finally, it was pushed back all the way to February 3, 2017. And the studio would like to reassure you that that date is for real this time. Sure, they’ve done barely any marketing for it a month out from release. But there’s a new poster, and it’s got the release date right there and everything!
The first Rings poster is a pretty simple piece that lays out the rules of the franchise, just in case you’ve forgotten in the fourteen years since the first The Ring hit theaters. It also features Samara, because Paramount knows how much you’ve missed her. Check it out below. Read More »

The Ring franchise threequel, Rings seems to be really struggling its way to theaters. Originally slated for a 2015 opening, Rings was pushed back once, twice, three times and now a fourth time. Also, Friday the 13th has been pushed back to a new release date next Halloween. Find out when both horror films will hit theaters, after the jump.
Not to be outdone by the Blair Witch, Samara is also mounting a return this fall. Paramount has unveiled the first trailer for Rings, starring Matilda Lutz and Alex Roe as the latest victims of that eerie video from 2002’s The Ring. And if you’re wondering how Samara’s curse could possibly continue in an era where no one watches VHS tapes anymore, you may be pleased to see she’s made some technological upgrades. Watch the Rings trailer below.
UPDATE: We’ve added a Rings international trailer below which contains a bit of new footage.

We’re back in Las Vegas at CinemaCon, the annual gathering of movie theater exhibitors. As you probably know by now, theater owners from around the nation gather to, among other things, watch presentations from all of the major movie studios previewing their film slates for the upcoming year and beyond. The opening night presentation was Paramount Pictures, which came to Vegas to promote Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, Ben-Hur, the first teaser trailer for the Ring franchise film Rings, the first footage from Tom Cruise’s sequel Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, Robert Zemeckis’ spy thriller Allied, xXx: The Return of Xander Cage, and a very early look at Baywatch starring The Rock and Zac Efron.
But the two biggest surprises involved Prisoners/Sicario/Blade Runner 2 filmmaker Denis Villeneuve adaptation of Story Of Your Life and the shocking lack of any Star Trek Beyond preview despite having Simon Pegg and JJ Abrams in town and on stage for an award celebration. The new Villeneuve film seems like a smart science fiction film, think Contact meets Close Encounters of a Third Kind. Hit the jump to watch a video blog reaction talking about all the clips shown at the presentation.

2002’s The Ring was a genuinely unsettling experience, one that slowly dug itself under your skin and lingered there long after the credits had rolled. But its sequel, 2005’s The Ring Two, was nowhere near as effective. And now its threequel, Rings, seems to be struggling even to get to the theater. Originally slated for a 2015 opening, Rings has just been pushed back again, this time all the way to fall 2016.
Meanwhile, also shuffling up and down the release calendar are Richard Linklater‘s Everybody Wants Some, which will arrive a smidge earlier than anticipated, and an as-yet-untitled Universal Monsters movie, which will drop a tiny bit later. Read More »
