Mattel Films will team up with rapper Lil Yachty to produce an Uno movie based on the classic card game, with Yachty also “eyeing a starring role” in the film. Though a lot of fans walked away disappointed in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, pretty much everyone can agree that one of the best parts of the movie was the new alien droidsmith called Babu Frik. However, despite being a breakout favorite from the movie and having his life in the Star Wars universe saved by Steven Spielberg in post-production, the little guy hasn’t seen much merchandise commemorating his role in defeating the First Order once and for all. But that’s about to change.

There have always been action figures and playsets tied to the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World franchises. While the dinosaurs and vehicles have always been the best parts of the toylines for both of the franchises, the action figures of the human characters have left something to be desire. Mattel has started to change that over the past year with the Jurassic Park Amber Collection, a new line of 6-inch scale action figures and dinosaurs inspired by Jurassic Park and Jurassic World. After years of driving in circles, the long-gestating Hot Wheels movie is finally heading toward the finish line. Mattel and Warner Bros. are teaming up to develop the toy company’s beloved car toyline Hot Wheels into a live-action feature film, making it their second partnership following the Barbie movie starring Margot Robbie.

Rebels, star your engines! Hot Wheels has been pumping out Star Wars memorabilia for awhile now with an entire line devoted towards turning iconic characters and ships from the sci-fi saga into little vehicles. However, following their life-size Darth Vader car that was created last year, the Mattel brand has decided to create an even more incredible vehicle by turning an X-Wing into a full functional car, complete with blasters, jet engines and a working cockpit door.

This year, luxury automobile manufacturer Lexus turned the future into the present by making a real working hoverboard, thanks to the science of super-cooled magnets. We’re still a long way off from having hoverboards on streets around the world, but it’s at least a step in the right direction.
However, in honor of Back to the Future Day coming up in just under a couple weeks, Universal Pictures has unleashed an official hoverboard commercial, touting the Mattel branded toy of the future, as if it were a product of the present. Read More »
