Cool Stuff: Crazy 4 Cult 5 Preview #1

This Friday, Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles will hold the fifth Crazy 4 Cult art show, an annual exhibition which I’ve called the super bowl of pop culture art. I am so jealous of all my fellow Los Angelans who are able to attend this week. I’ll be away in Texas, but I can’t complain as I’ll be bringing back my girlfriend with me (the big move, exciting). The great guys at G1988 have given me a bunch of art from the show to premiere on the site.

After the jump you will find part one of our preview, which includes a new Back to the Future-inspired piece by the great Eric Tan, Monster Squad and Better Off Dead pieces by /Film favorite Dave Perillo, an incredibly multi-level Scott Pilgrim vs. The World piece by Jim Horwat, Alex Pardee‘s tribute to a new cult classic, Rubber, and more. So what are you waiting for?

Say Anything

You might recall that we’ve featured Jim Horwat‘s Movie Comic Illustrations on the site in the past: Back to the Future, The Big Lebowski, The Goonies, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, and the Friday the 13th series. Jim has returned with a new print, which is a one-page illustration of Cameron Crowe’s late-1980’s classic Say Anything.

Jim is selling a signed and number limited edition of 100 11×17 inch black and white fine art prints of Say Anything for only $20 plus shipping. They are printed on a super high quality Xerox Docucolor; durable waterproof finish on heavyweight 32# paper stock. Mailed flat in a polypropaline sleeve w/ acid free backer, ready to frame. Check out the full image, after the jump.

As you probably know by now, Gallery 1988 will be holding their third annual pop culture art show Crazy4Cult 3D from July 16th to August 8th in Los Angeles. Over the past couple weeks we’ve featured a couple of the fantastic art that will be on display at the show, including Jeff Boyes’ take on Luc Besson’s 1994 film The Professional, Jim Horwat’s Back to the Future Tribute, Tom Whalen’s Army of Darkness, Dave Perillo’s Goonies board game, Keith Noordzy’s Al of the Dead and Daniel Rizzolo’s Pee-Wee Herman-inspired “I’m a Loner, a Rebal.”

We should have a couple more exclusive looks in the coming weeks, but lets first take a look at some of the other fantastic art which has begun to appear around the interwebs, including Tom Whalen’s UHF poster and an epic art parodying 19 cult film references by Dan Lydersen.

Our friends at Gallery1988 have provided us with an exclusive high resolution look at Jim Horwat‘s awesome tribute to Back to the Future. Horwat created the piece fot the upcoming Crazy4Cult 3D pop culture art show, which takes place from July 16th to August 8th 2009. Above is just a zoomed in section. Check out the full thing after the jump.

Anyone who reads the site regularly knows that I’m a huge Back to the Future fanatic. Not only do I own a Flux Capacitor, a Hoverboard but I was born on November 12th — the same date as the infamous Hill Valley Thunderstorm.

This piece of art has so much wodnerful detail. I really hope that Horwat considers making one of these for Part II. And maybe there is a chance that Gallery1988 will make some limited prints of this piece of awesomeness available? We’ll keep you updated!
