There’s a great gag in the 1992 Simpsons Halloween episode Treehouse of Horror III. It happens during the segment “Clown Without Pity”, which involves an evil Krusty the Clown doll attempting to murder Simpson patriarch Homer. The problem is resolved when a repairman arrives at the Simpson residence, takes one look at the back of the doll, and proclaims: “Yep, here’s your problem. Someone set this thing to evil.”

Sure enough, on the dolls back is switch with two modes: GOOD and EVIL. It’s a quick, silly throwaway joke that works perfectly in the comical animated world of The Simpsons. And the makers of the 2019 Child’s Play remake apparently liked it so much they decided to steal it to create their Chucky. Because the new Chucky isn’t a doll possessed by a serial killer. It’s just a doll that someone set to evil. How lazy can you get?

What if…the Child’s Play remake ends up being good? Fans of the franchise (like me!) were initially grumpy about this entire endeavor, but slowly and surely, the new film has worn has down. The cast is mighty impressive, and having Mark Hamill as the new voice of Chucky is a masterstroke. And then there’s the footage, which looks promising. Including the footage you’ll see in the new trailer below. While nothing can ever replace the original Child’s Play series, this new take on the material might end up surprising us all. It was only a matter of time before the makers of Playmobil took a look at those LEGO Movie box office numbers and said: “Why not us?” The figures, which originated in Germany, are kind of like LEGOs, but with a lot fewer pieces. And now they have their own movie! In Playmobil: The Movie, a pair of siblings end up being turned into the tiny plastic toys, and getting sucked into their world.
