Halloween may be over, but it’s never too late to appreciate the chilling vision of veteran animator Carlos Baena‘s award-winning short film, La Noria. Baena, whose long history in Hollywood span franchises like Star WarsToy Story, and Jurassic Park, ventured outside the studio system to write and direct the animated short film La Noria in an online collaboration with hundreds of international artists. Toy Story 3 will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on November 2nd 2010 and Disney has given us an exclusive bonus clip from the release. The clip is entitled “Creating Spanish Buzz” from the bonus featurette Toys! It features animator Carlos Baena (an awesome guy who I’ve met previously, who in addition to working at Pixar is an animation mentor for aspiring animators) discussing the animation of Buzz in Spanish mode after he is reset at Sunnyside Daycare. There’s footage from the film of Buzz doing his flamingo dance, Carlos filming himself performing some of the poses and gestures for reference (which is quite funny, actually), director Lee Unkrich talking about Spanish Buzz, and footage from the animation test with Spanish Buzz and Jessie dancing. Watch the clip now embedded after the jump.
