VOTD: How ‘Bumblebee’ Should Have Ended

How Bumblebee Should Have Ended

Bumblebee is now available on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, DVD and digital download, bringing the best Transformers movie in over a decade to the comfort of your own home. However, even though the Transformers spin-off that takes us back to the 1980s is a refreshing, charming and outstanding soft reboot of the toy franchise, that doesn’t mean it’s not without some issues that could have easily been resolved if the movie had a totally different ending, which could have come pretty much right at the beginning.

bumblebee vhs trailer

Bumblebee hits Blu-ray tomorrow, but before we get to that, let’s take a look at the “official” VHS release. Honoring the spirit of the Transfomers prequel’s 1980s setting (and April Fools’ Day), Paramount is releasing the film on VHS…sort of. While VHS copies of Bumblebee do exist, they’re not for sale anywhere. Instead, you’ll have to make due with this funny Bumblebee VHS trailer.

bumblebee trailer

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen seemingly tested any faith fans had in the franchise following the satisfying 2007 live-action debut of the toy-based franchise. Since then, every sequel in the Transformers franchise has made less and less money, to the point that Transformers: The Last Knight barely made more than half of what the previous sequel, Age of Extinction, earned at the domestic box office.

Sadly, that continued disappointment didn’t bode well for Bumblebee, which is currently the lowest grossing movie in the entire Transformers franchise ($3 million under The Last Knight), both domestically and globally. But the good news is that Bumblebee was received extremely well by critics. Not only is it the highest rated film in the franchise with critics at Rotten Tomatoes, but it’s the second most beloved by general audiences, second only to the original Transformers from 2007. What does all this mean for the future of the Transformers franchise? Executive producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura recently talked about the possibilities. Read More »

bumblebee sequel

Bumblebee may not have earned the buzz it deserved at U.S. box offices, but the Transformers prequel is seeing major success internationally. Thanks to a boost from the Chinese box office, Bumblebee crossed the $400 million mark worldwide, making it a solid success for Paramount. And we know what box office success translates to: a sequel. A Bumblebee sequel is reportedly in the works at Paramount following its international success, which could get even more fuel when it opens in Japan in March.

Bumblebee Deleted Scenes

The Transformers spin-off Bumblebee hit theaters just before Christmas. While the film certainly didn’t bomb at the box office, debuting in the #3 spot, it’s having some trouble matching up to the success that Aquaman and Mary Poppins Returns have had on the charts. That’s a real shame, especially since this is easily the best film in the Transformers franchise, and a big part of that achievement comes from taking a step back from the Michael Bay movies.

Some new Bumblebee details reveal that the spin-off did everything they could to distance themselves from what Michael Bay brought to the Transformers movies and give fans something that felt new and refreshing. The changes made between a test screening of the movie and the final cut that ended up in theaters actually got rid of several details that would have linked the movie to the original Transformers movies much more. weekend box office aquaman

The final weekend of 2018 came and went, and Aquaman continued to sit at the top of the box office. January tends to be a dumping ground for studios, so it’s unlikely that James Wan’s submerged superhero will be washed away anytime soon – unless audiences really get a craving for Escape Room. The rest of the weekend box office remained predictable: Mary Poppins Returns held on at second, and Bumblebee is stuck at third.  Read More »
