Just under a couple months ago, director Ridley Scott revealed that the title of Prometheus 2 would more directly tie into the Alien franchise with the official title of Alien: Paradise Lost. The project is currently in active development, so much that it pushed back Neill Blomkamp’s developing Alien 5 until further notice, leaving him to take on another sci-fi project in the meantime. Prometheus was a thousand and one razor-sharp ideas crammed into a bag made of paper – the whole thing bursts and cuts you deep the moment you start poking it too hard. Ridley Scott‘s Alien prequel has ambition in spades and it’s jaw-dropping on a technical level, but its story is a total mess. If this series is going to survive another installment, Alien: Paradise Lost will need a solid foundation.

After all that fuss, it looks like the only Alien sequel we’ll be getting in the foreseeable future is Ridley Scott‘s. Rebecca Ferguson came seemingly out of nowhere to steal the show in this summer’s Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, and now it seems she’s at the top of everyone’s casting wishlist. No one in the universe wants a sequel to Prometheus more than director Ridley Scott, who has been talking about a follow-up to his Alien prequel ever since it left audiences baffled and divided three years ago. Now titled Alien: Paradise Lost, the film that once was Prometheus 2 has charted a course for an early 2016 start date and Scott has been slowly spilling plot details to anyone who will listen. The latest news: the survivors of the first film will be joined by a new crew of characters. After all, what good is an Alien movie without a body count?
