Amid all the hubbub about Phil Lord and Chris Miller leaving the Han Solo movie, I’d completely forgotten that they were involved with an animated Spider-Man film across town at Sony Pictures Animation. That project just scored a couple of solid additions to its voice cast, as Oscar winner Mahershala Ali (Moonlight) and actor Brian Tyree Henry (who plays rapper Paper Boi on Donald Glover’s FX series Atlanta) have officially come on board. Our friends across the pond just recently got to see the reboot of the 80s animated series Danger Mouse, which originated in the United Kingdom in the 80s, and it sounds like a feature film adaptation isn’t far behind.

Just when you think Hollywood has exhausted all possible movies, TV shows, video games, toys, and board games to turn into more movies and TV shows, something like this happens.
Sony Pictures Animation has just won a bidding war against two other studios for an animated movie pitch involving Emoji. Yes, the little pictures that people send back and forth via phones and various social media channels will soon be the subject of a major motion picture. Sadly, today is not April 1st.
