Now that Kevin Feige has ultimate power in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the new Chief Creative Officer of Marvel Entertainment, it seems like he’s cleaning house and getting all the comic book company’s media ducks in a row. Or in this case, he’s putting one of them out of their misery.

An early trailer for Marvel TV and Freeform’s Cloak & Dagger left me wondering if it might be the cheesiest show the company had produced in years, but subsequent marketing seems to indicate I may have cast judgment a bit too hastily. Freeform brought the show’s pilot to this year’s South By Southwest film festival, and our writer on the ground was extremely impressed with it. Freeform debuted the pilot of Cloak & Dagger, the new young adult Marvel series hitting small screens on Freeform in June, at SXSW today. An hour into this world, it’s clear that it’ll be among the upper echelon of Marvel television. Let’s be real: Marvel Entertainment has produced some pretty damn cheesy television over the past few years. They’re not necessarily bad shows, mind you, but many of them have dipped into super cheesy territory: overly dramatic, seemingly lacking any sense of self-awareness, the works. I don’t need to name names because you know it when you see it.
Today, Freeform (formerly ABC Family) released a trailer for Marvel’s new teen-centric series Cloak and Dagger, and it could just be the editing in this trailer, but man, this show looks like Chester Cheetah: dangerously cheesy.
