But it turns out that even he can get get scared at the prospect of a comic book movie and taking on the role of an iconic Batman villain. It’s official: Joaquin Phoenix will play the Clown Prince of Crime in a Joker standalone movie. We more or less already knew this, but after months of rumor and speculation, it appears Phoenix has officially, finally signed on to the project. And now Warner Bros. will make it, with Todd Phillips directing.

The wolf pack has already done Las Vegas and Bangkok, and it appears that they’ll be heading to yet another world-famous party town for the third and final stop on their debauched tour. A couple of different outlets are reporting that The Hangover Part III will be set in Tijuana, Mexico, though an insider says much of the film will be shot in Los Angeles and Las Vegas before the cast and crew head south of the border. Put aside, for a moment, the notion that a comedy like The Hangover really doesn’t need a sequel. The movie has performed spectacularly well, and will likely earn $200m this summer, wo sequel plans that Warner Brothers laid months ago are very likely going to come to fruition. Which means that director Todd Phillips and stars Zach Galifianakis, Ed Helms and Bradley Cooper are already fielding questions about it.
