At this point, Liam Neeson movies are practically a genre unto themselves, and Liam Neeson-Jaume Collet-Serra movies are quite possibly their apex. The Commuter is one of the best of the bunch. Even though it’s not really anything you haven’t seen before, Neeson’s commitment to the role and Collet-Serra’s at times inspired direction make for a movie that’s hell on wheels. Sure, you can see some of the twists coming from a mile away, but it’s a forgivable sin when they’re executed with so much panache.

Here’s a nice distraction from current events: a final trailer for The Commuter. Liam Neeson, action star, is back once again with lurid, style-overload director Jaume Collet-Serra for a whole new ridiculous thriller. This final trailer is loaded with some shaggy CGI, a quick shot of Sam Neill with a mustache, and explosions. But the real draw here is Neeson, who continues to age like a fine wine while also punching people in the face. Watch The Commuter trailer below.

You don’t know the train commute from hell until you’ve been blackmailed into identifying a hidden passenger who is being targeted by an elaborate criminal conspiracy. So, thank goodness that it’s Liam Neeson at the center of The Commuter trailer, and not you. Because you can always count on Liam Neeson to do what he does best, while you would likely send a strongly worded tweet at the MTA.

Earlier this month, Liam Neeson indicated that his streak of action movies might be coming to an end. During an interview at the Toronto International Film Festival, the star of Taken, Unknown and The Grey said, “They’re still throwing serious money at me to do that stuff. I’m like: ‘Guy’s I’m sixty-fucking-five.’ Audiences are eventually going to go: ‘Come on.'” Around the web, everyone took this as Neeson saying he would be stepping back from the action genre now that he’s in his mid-60s, but apparently that’s not the case. Earlier this month, we were treated to the first teaser for Spanish filmmaker Jaume Collet-Serra‘s newest action thriller The Commuter, which reunites him with his frequent collaborator Liam Neeson (Non-Stop, Unknown, Run All Night). That trailer featured a small glimpse at the blend of goofiness and deadly seriousness with which Collet-Serra tends to approach genre movies like these, but a new international teaser has just come out, and this thing makes me want to inject the film directly into my veins as soon as possible.

After a brief sojourn with Blake Lively, a giant shark, and a humorously-named seagull in last year’s The Shallows, Spanish filmmaker Jaume Collet-Serra has returned to his one true muse, Liam Neeson, for his newest film. The new trailer for The Commuter has pulled into the station, and this looks like a vintage Colleta-Serra/Neeson joint: a guy gets into a dangerous situation on a high-speed passenger transport vehicle, and the clock ticks down as he has to figure out how to handle it. Explosions and out-of-control antics ensue.
In other words: hell yes, I’m going to see The Commuter when it comes out next year.

Liam Neeson may not end up in the TV version of one of his most famous movie roles, but the actor is carrying on in the thriller mode that has defined the last few years of his career. Now, Liam Neeson… is… The Commuter! That relatively underwhelming title decorates the front page of a script about a businessman’s white-knuckle trip home, during which he is embroiled in a conspiracy. Read More »
