Steven Spielberg had the aliens from H.G. Wells classic sci-fi invasion story War of Worlds tear through Boston and the rest of the modern world back in 2005, which feels like a lifetime ago. Now the BBC is giving the story a new adaptation in the form of a miniseries, but as the War of the Worlds trailer shows, this one throws the invasion back to Edwardian England, bringing the British people of the early 1900s face-to-face with technology the likes of which they’ve never seen before, truly a nightmare from another world. Roadies has reached the end of its road. Showtime has officially cancelled the Cameron Crowe-created dramedy, which starred Luke Wilson and Carla Gugino as crew members for a touring band. This winter, comedy director Adam McKay (Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Step Brothers) takes the leap to a different genre by directing the financial crisis drama The Big Short. Based on Michael Lewis‘ book of the same name, the story follows Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling and Brad Pitt as four men who try to take on the banks before a major collapse in the global economy.

Asa Butterfield stars as a young prodigy who’s terrible with people but great with numbers. His life changes when he’s chosen to represent Great Britain at the International Mathematical Olympiad in China. One bit of advice that commonly gets doled out at weddings is the warning / reassurance that the first year of marriage is the toughest, since the couple are still adjusting to being shackled together for all eternity. That certainly seems to be the case in I Give It a Year, directed by Brüno scribe Dan Mazer.
After a beautiful ceremony, newlyweds Nat (Rose Byrne) and Josh (Rafe Spall) come home to realize that something’s not quite clicking in their relationship. To complicate matters, a couple of very appealing outs present themselves in the form of Josh’s “too perfect” ex (Anna Faris) and Nat’s dashing new client (Simon Baker).
