Pacific Rim godzilla

2018’s Pacific Rim Uprising made more that $290 million worldwide, but with a reported $150 million budget plus advertising costs on top of that, it wasn’t successful enough to lead to a third film in the Pacific Rim franchise.

But after reading this latest update from Uprising director Steven S. DeKnight, I wonder if fans might regret not turning out in bigger numbers for that sequel. The filmmaker confirms that he had a plan for a potential Pacific Rim 3, which would have incorporated King Kong and Godzilla into Guillermo del Toro’s universe of kaiju and jaegers. But the giant fights that inevitably would have ensued on screen would not have been between the players you might think.

Guillermo del Toro Is Working On A Small Indie Movie Next

This hasn’t been a terrible week for Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth). A few days ago he had his newest picture, Crimson Peak, warmly received at Fantastic Fest, and, apparently, he’s currently hard at work on another film at the moment. Little is known about project, but we think we have an idea for what this del Toro indie might be. Read more about it after the jump.

Pacific Rim 2 fan art

With an April 7, 2017 release date already locked in, it’s no surprise Guillermo del Toro is deep into work on Pacific Rim 2. What’s a bit more intriguing is that he’s planning the movie with an eye on the sequel, the not-yet-greenlit Pacific Rim 3.
