New Supermarket Sweep

(Welcome to The Quarantine Stream, a new series where the /Film team shares what they’ve been watching while social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic.)

The Series: Supermarket Sweep (2020)

Where You Can Stream It: Hulu

The Pitch: Leslie Jones hosts the revival of this classic game show that first started in the 1960s, returned in the mid-1990s, and came back one more time in the early 2000s. Three teams of two ultimate shoppers compete in a variety of brand name trivia and puzzles before racing around a perfectly polished and organized grocery store for the most fast-paced shopping spree you’ve ever seen. The grand prize? A whopping $100,000.

Why It’s Essential Viewing: Look, things are getting bad out there. We just hit over 250,000 deaths because of the coronavirus pandemic, North Dakota has the worst COVID-19 death rate in the entire world, and coronavirus numbers are on the rise all across the United States. It’s only going to get worse as people ignore warnings in favor of gathering for Thanksgiving and Christmas. But if you’re smart, you’ll find a way to distract yourself and stay at home as much as you can, and the new Supermarket Sweep is the perfect way to do that, especially if you’re only having your groceries delivered to your house at this point. Live vicariously through the grocery game show! Read More »

Netflix Comedians Check in with Neal Brennan

Plenty of industries are hurting because of the coronavirus pandemic, and that includes entertainment. But while movies and TV shows are starting to get back into production, live stand-up comedy shows are still mostly non-existent because gathering a bunch of people in a single room to open their mouths and guffaw incessantly isn’t the smartest movie when there’s a contagious virus kicking around. But Netflix recently put together a little video to hold us over with some of their biggest comedy stars.

Netflix asked comedian Neal Brennan to check in with some of his fellow comics like Adam Sandler, Kevin Hart, Amy Schumer, Tig Notaro, John Mulaney, Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld, Tiffany Haddish, David Letterman, Wanda Sykes, Sarah Silverman, Steve Martin, and many more. Brennan wanted to provide some levity not just for the comedians stuck at home without an audience, but also for their fans who miss seeing the on stage, so he asks them all about their favorite jokes, comics, previous jobs, and more. There’s also a new reboot on the way – something that was in the process even before Netflix made the old episodes available to stream. Ahead of an October premiere, Supermarket Sweep reboot teaser has arrived, along with details about the show.

Leading up to and after the release of Ghostbusters: Answer the Call, the female team of conductors of the metaphysical examination faced a lot of vitriol and venom from the angry fanboys who were simply upset about women taking over paranormal extermination duties. So it should come as no surprise that one of them is upset about the new Ghostbusters project in the works from director Jason Reitman, son of the original franchise director producer Ivan Reitman.

Leslie Jones, who played Patty Tolan in the 2016 reboot of Ghostbusters, lashed out on Twitter over the weekend about the all-new, surprise Ghostbusters movie in development that will act as a sequel to Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II.
