From the late 1990s through the early 2000s, boy bands were all the rage, and one of the best and most popular was undoubtedly NSYNC. Comprised of Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, Lance Bass, Chris Kirkpatrick, and Joey Fatone, the pop musical group had tons of hit singles and millions of adoring fans around the world. Since the nostalgia for that time is increasing everyday, it should come as no surprise that there’s an NSYNC-centric movie in the works for the Sony Pictures arm TriStar.
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend co-creator and star Rachel Bloom will write the script for a currently untitled movie that tells the true story about real life best friends Meredith Sandberg and Winter Byington, who spent an entire summer following NSYNC on their last world tour before the band said bye, bye, bye. The new video on FunnyOrDie is co-directed by Hairspray director Adam Shankman and stars the biggest cast to ever grace one of the comedy site’s viral videos: Zac Efron, Thomas Lennon, Nicole Sullivan, Vanessa Hudgens, Justin Long, Nicole Ritchie, Joel Madden, Queen Latifah, Brody Jenner, Carmen Electra, Lance Bass, Brittany Snow, Jessica Stroup, Chelsea Staub, Jessica Rose, Ruta Gedmintas, Abby Pivaronas, Ryan Rottman, DJ Timbo, Mark Kvammsuck. The question is, why does the video suck so much?
I’m a huge fan and supporter of FunnyOrDie, and I understand their biggest videos have featured the participation of big name Hollywood stars. I’m sure this video will get record hits. Heck, it has Zac Efron, and in 2009, that’s almost as good as having that guy with the weird hair from Twilight. I can’t speak for anyone else, but I know the reason I’ve liked FunnyOrDie’s videos is because they were actually funny, well written, and well produced. Eric Appel took things to a new level with Gobstopper. But this video just seems like they invited a bunch of semi-famous people to a pool party and tried to film a video around the participants. Lets hope this doesn’t become the norm.
Earlier this month Sarah Silverman recorded a music video announcing to the world that she’s F**king Matt Damon. Damon has long been the punchline of a running joke in Silverman’s boyfriend Jimmy Kimmel’s sign-off (“Apologies to Matt Damon, we’ve run out of time!”).
As a retaliation, Kimmel has recorded a music video himself, announcing that he’s F**king Ben Affleck! The video features cameo appearances from Brad Pitt, Harrison Ford, Cameron Diaz, Joan Jett, Macy Gray, Robin Williams, Don Cheadle, Pete Wentz, Perry Farrell, Benji and Joel Madden, Lance Bass, Huey Lewis, Josh Groban, McLovin, Meatloaf, and former announcer and Mighty Mighty Bosstones frontman Dicky Barrett. Check it out after the jump.
