It was such an impactful performance that Furiosa star Anya Taylor-Joy “can’t even think about trying to step into her shoes,” the actress said of her upcoming leading role in the Fury Road prequel. So instead of trying to fill those shoes, Taylor-Joy will try something “different” from Theron’s performance.

It’s been nearly five full years since director George Miller set the movie world on fire with Mad Max: Fury Road, one of the ballsiest films ever made and easily one of the greatest movies of the past decade. A possible sequel was mired in legal troubles for a while, but last year, it seemed as if things were finally in place for not just one movie, but multiple Mad Max movies to get underway.

Now a new report says Miller is actively holding auditions for a Mad Max Furiosa prequel movie, which he hopes to begin shooting next year. One of the people he’s auditioned for the lead role? The Witch, Split, and Emma. actress Anya Taylor-Joy.

No Furiosa in the Mad Max sequel

To call Charlize Theron‘s Imperator Furiosa a scene-stealer in Mad Max: Fury Road wouldn’t be fair to her performance. Although both Max (Tom Hardy) and Furiosa find hope and redemption, Fury Road is really more of Furiosa’s story than the road warrior’s. The expanding universe of Mad Max keeps on expanding. There was a point a couple years ago when it was surprising to learn that series creator/director George Miller had written a new Mad Max movie and would be bringing it to screens. That project, Mad Max: Fury Road, is set to star Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron and will hopefully shoot sometime in the first half of 2012.

Shortly after we learned of the existence of Fury Road, we found that it was actually the first of two new films, with the second potentially called Mad Max: Furiosa. And now Miller says that he’s actually got three scripts. So if Fury Road ever gets off the ground, we might end up with a whole new Mad Max trilogy. Read More »
