The 15 Best Horror Movies of 2020

Best Horror Movies of 2020

The very scary year that was 2020 is now over, but we’re not quite done with it just yet. While the movie release landscape was severely changed due to the coronavirus pandemic, several great horror movies managed to find their way to audiences. Below, we’ve rounded up the best of the best to countdown the 15 Best Horror Movies of 2020.

(Note: I would’ve loved to have included Saint Maud, a movie I saw in 2019, on this list. But while Saint Maud was released in the UK in 2020, its US release date remains in limbo. Because of that, I’m not including it here – even though it’s fantastic.)

Top 10 Movies of 2020 Chris Evangelista

It’s been a very, very weird year. And the movie landscape was severely hampered by a pandemic that closed down most movie theaters and had studios shuffling release dates to and fro. But that doesn’t mean there weren’t great movies that found their way to screens big and small. The Croods 2 2020 Thanksgiving Box Office

Considering how many people decided it was okay to fly across the country for Thanksgiving in the middle of a pandemic, it should come as no surprise that some people were also willing to risk their lives to see what an animated caveman family has been up to after seven years.

The Croods 2: A New Age opened in theaters for the holiday weekend, and while it had no problem taking the top spot at the box office and surpassing Tenet for the biggest box office opening since the coronavirus pandemic began, these numbers are still nothing to brag about. Read More »

Freaky Box Office

As the coronavirus pandemic continues to get worse in the United States, many states are tightening restrictions on non-essential businesses and gatherings of people. That may not stop the plethora of idiots who are still forcing their Thanksgiving plans into existence despite the irresponsibility of it all, but it did result in the shutdown of nearly 700 theaters this past weekend, making for a poor showing at the box office on a weekend that is typically full of huge blockbusters. freaky review

Filled with inventive kills, genuinely funny jokes, and a surprisingly warm heart, Freaky is one of the year’s most enjoyable films. It’s a blood-drenched horror-comedy that goes for big laughs, bigger gore, and wraps it all up in touching pathos that’s bound to catch more than a few viewers off guard. The original pitch for the film was Freaky Friday meets Friday the 13th, and if that isn’t enough to catch your attention, what is? A body-swap comedy crossed with a slasher flick, Freaky feels like it has something for everyone. It’s the best, and most inventive, slasher movie since Scream.

Cinemark Shortened Theatrical Windows in November

Movie theaters are still having a tough time right now, so some of the major chains are doing whatever they can in order to better their financial situation. AMC Theatres got some help from a deal they struck with Universal that not only shortened the theatrical window to 17 days but gave theaters some of the VOD revenue when the movie was available to rent digitally at home. Now, it seems Cinemark is the latest chain looking to allow shortened theatrical windows during this unprecedented situation. Read More »

Freaky Trailer - Kathryn Newton

Sadly, there’s no Friday the 13th in October. Perhaps that’s why Universal decided to wait until November to release Freaky, their wild body swapping horror comedy starring Kathryn Newton and Vince Vaughn as a high school girl and serial killer who accidentally end up trapped in each other’s bodies. Watch the new Freaky trailer below for some (s)laughter. Read More »

freaky nycc

Freaky, the new horror-comedy from Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon, takes a body premise and throws in a slasher movie angle. I can’t speak for the quality of the film just yet – I still haven’t seen it – but as a far of the Happy Death Day films, I’m incredibly excited to check this thing out. For now, though, I’ll make do with the Freaky NYCC panel, which had writer-director Christopher Landon, the film’s stars, Vince Vaughn, Kathryn Newton, Celeste O’Connor, and Misha Osherovich, talking about what’s in store.
