In late-2008, we told you that Sherwood Schwartz and his son Lloyd Schwartz had signed a deal to bring Gilligan’s Island to the big screen. But we haven’t really heard anything about the big screen adaptation for over a year, until now. Variety reports that Warner Bros is developing the feature film with Atlas Entertainment. Charles Roven and Richard Suckle are on board to produce, and screenwriter Brad Copeland has been hired to write the screenplay.

Ridley Scott isn’t the only man in Hollywood making a Robin Hood movie. Warner Bros is also developing a film based on the classic tale, but with a sci-fi twist. Danish commercial director Nicolai Fuglsig pitched the project, and has signed on to direct. Newcomer Jason Dean Hall, who wrote the Ashton Kutcher Sundance comedy Spread and is working on a big screen adaptation of the video game Blacklight for Fox, has been hired to write the screenplay. Charles Roven (The Dark Knight) and Gianni Nunnari (300, The Departed) are producing the adaptation.
According to RiskyBiz, the story will “be set in a dystopian London and center on a band of thieves whose activities restore hope to the city’s embattled population.” The producers describe it as “a futuristic action adventure” that will be “both inspired by and pay homage to the legend of Robin Hood.” The concept sounds like it has a lot of potential (but then again, they really didn’t tell us a heck of a lot). Fuglsig has directed a couple of commercials I’ve admired over the past few years, including one of my favorite commercials of all time. Check out some of his selected work in our commercial director spotlight.
Sam Raimi, director of Evil Dead, Army of Darkness, the Spider-Man films, has signed on to direct a big screen adaptation of World of Warcraft, Blizzard Entertainment’s massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG). The scoop was first reported by AICN and later confirmed by Variety, who also reports that The Dark Knight producer Charles Roven is also on board. The current plan is for Raimi to supervise the development of the movie and to begin production after Spider-Man 4.

IESB claims that Christopher Nolan, Jonathan Nolan and David Goyer are already working on the screenplay for a third Batman film, but when they talked to producer Charles Roven, they were unable to get a confirmation. I have a feeling that the process is in the earliest of stages (ideas, possible treatment), and that the trio are not huddled around a table in a room with one of them hard at work typing behind a computer screen.
Puss in Boots and The Flash news after the jump.

I was able to ask producer Charles Roven about the current status of the big screen adaptation of The Flash while I was at the press junket for The Dark Knight.
“We had hoped to be able to get a new draft going before the writers’ strike and we weren’t able to,” Roven admitted. “And since the writers’ strike, we just haven’t been able to find the right creative compatibility between what we’re looking for and a writer and you know, we’re a little bit dragging our feet, we’re just waiting to see what’s going to happen with this actor’s strike, you know.”
It has since been reported that DC is taking Warner Bros to task for the current state of their upcoming film properties, so it wouldn’t surprise me if the project is all of a sudden given the fast track.
