Yoga Hosers, the second film in Kevin Smith‘s True North trilogy, makes its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival this Sunday, January 24. But if you saw Smith’s last film Tusk, you’ll be familiar with its lead characters already — Colleen and Colleen (Harley Quinn Smith and Lily-Rose Depp, the teenage convenience store clerks who were questioned by Johnny Depp‘s Guy LaPointe. And if you’d like to know even more about these gals, you’re in luck, because they’re also getting an origin story of sorts in the form of a comic book.

Cross a film off of Kevin Smith‘s long to-do list. The writer/director just completed Yoga Hosers, his teenage superhero/thriller starring Harley Quinn Smith (Smith’s daughter) and Lily-Rose Depp (Johnny Depp’s daughter). We know he’s done because Smith tweeted about the status, and posted an image of the end credits, which tease that the characters will be back in Moose Jaws.
Below, check out the images and read more about Smith’s upcoming work.
UPDATE: The first images from the film are now online. Check them out below. Read More »
We’ve already heard from Kevin Smith about his impressive list of upcoming projects. He’s also told us about what making Tusk meant to him. Now, in part two of our long interview with the filmmaker, we dig a little deeper. Smith goes into great detail about some of the more talked-about decisions he made in Tusk, which is now on Blu-ray.
First Smith talks about the decision to reveal the walrus suit so early in the film. That leads into a discussion of effects in general, his preferred tone, other problems people have with the film and then his biggest regret in the marketing of the film. (A mistake he says he’ll never make again). He then talks about the inventive, aggressive schedule on Yoga Hosers, which is almost done filming. Read the rest of our Kevin Smith Tusk interview below. The Internet had a collective freakout when Kevin Smith revealed his clean-shaven look for his next film, Yoga Hosers. But otherwise, so far Yoga Hosers looks a lot like Smith’s last film, Tusk. The surly convenience store employees are back. So is the maple-syrup-filled convenience store set. And also returning is Johnny Depp‘s Guy Lapointe, along with his signature beret.

Say what you will about Kevin Smith‘s Tusk, but ultimately it was the spark that gave new life to the filmmaker. Just like he did in the ’90s, Smith made Tusk kind of on a whim. He and his producer Scott Mosier came up with the idea, Smith wrote it and a few months later it was being shot. Unlike his ’90s debut, Smith did have funding this time so it wasn’t as down and dirty as Clerks. But the independent spirit was there. And Kevin Smith is now overflowing with movie ideas.
He’s got a few more days to shoot on Yoga Hosers, a Tusk spinoff about two 15-year-old girls fighting monsters. After that, he’ll finally make the long awaited Clerks III. He’s also got preliminary funding to make Moose Jaws, a horror comedy that is basically Jaws with a moose. That’ll likely happen after Clerks III.
For Smith fans, though, there’s one glaring omission that list: Hit Somebody. Over the past few years, Smith’s hockey epic morphed from one film, to two films, to a miniseries and then into oblivion as he got busy with so many other things. But /Film recently talked to the director and he revealed that the producers of Tusk have given him money not only to make Yoga Hosers, Clerks III and Moose Jaws but Hit Somebody as well. And they’ll shoot it in Canada during the Fall of 2015.

For most kids, “hanging out with family friends” means getting sent upstairs to play Monopoly with some weirdo from school while your parents get drunk together in the living room. But things are a bit different when you’re the offspring of Kevin Smith and Johnny Depp.
After appearing together as two convenience store clerks in Tusk, Smith and Depp’s daughters Harley Quinn Smith and Lily-Rose Depp are reprising their roles in a much bigger capacity for Smith’s next movie, Yoga Hosers. The first image from that movie has just been revealed, and you can see it after the jump.

Cool Posts From Around the Web:
Kevin Smith has always been a comic book fan. His second and third movies were steeped in comics. To this day, he’ll occasionally write a comic and even maintains a podcast about Batman. And for a comic book fan/filmmaker, there’s really nothing better than getting Stan Lee to appear in your film. That happened for Smith in film number two, Mallrats, when Lee showed up – as himself – to spout a few gross words of wisdom to our hero, Brodie.
Now, almost 20 years later, Smith got Lee to return for his latest film, Yoga Hosers. Check out the image and more below. Read More »
Kevin Smith has cast off ideas of retirement and is instead driving forward with the development and creation of small-budget films based on original ideas that spring out of podcasts and his own fevered brain. The next one is the horror story Tusk, which premieres next month at the Toronto Film Festival. At Comic Con, Smith revealed that Tusk is the first film in what he hopes will be a set of Canada-based stories called “The True North Trilogy.”
The second film in the set will be Yoga Hosers, a story about two high school girls who battle evil. The film is described as an “action/adventure movie” that Smith says will effectively be his own comic book movie. Johnny Depp is now set for the film, and the leads will be played by his daughter Lily-Rose Depp, and Smith’s daughter Harley Quinn Smith. Read More »
