Disney dropped a new What If…? trailer during their huge Investor Day event, bringing us more footage of the animated series. Like the comics that inspired it, What If…? presents us with alternate realities; versions of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that are either slightly, or vastly different from what we’ve experienced in the films. It’s a great idea, and bringing in the MCU actors to voice their animated counterparts makes the whole endeavor even more enjoyable.

The Marvel What If…? comics were cool little diversions that asked questions like, “What if The Punisher Had Killed Spider-Man?”, and other non-cannonical scenarios. Now that concept has been grafted onto an animated series for Disney+. Even though Marvel Studios halted production on their upcoming Disney+ shows The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, WandaVision, and Loki, at least one of their new productions for the streaming service is still hard at work.
The first animated series from Marvel Studios will be What If…?, imagining alternate realities within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, we learned that over two dozen Marvel Cinematic Universe actors were going to be lending their voices to the upcoming animated Disney+ series What If?, which explores alternate realities within the MCU. One name that was absent from that long list of performers was Robert Downey Jr., leaving us to assume that the MCU’s highest-paid actor truly was finished playing Tony Stark after his swan song in Avengers: Endgame.
