After all that nonsense calling Paul Thomas Anderson‘s new film the “Untitled Paul Thomas Anderson Religious Film” it seems he’s gone back to his original title, The Master. Good choice. The film focuses on a man (Philip Seymour Hoffman) who returns from World War II and begins his own belief system. Anderson has also added Josh Close (Diary of the Dead, The Pacific) and Fiona Dourif (The Messenger, True Blood) to the cast. Read More »
While most of the best set photos usually feature actors or filmmakers, there is a rare caliber of upcoming film where the sets themselves are exciting. Usually, that’s reserved for the mega-blockbusters like The Dark Knight Rises or The Avengers however, in the case of Paul Thomas Anderson‘s currently untitled film which was previously called The Master, we’ll make an exception. It’s Paul Thomas Anderson, after all. The Oscar-nominated director is currently on Mare Island in Northern California shooting his long-delayed film starring Philip Seymour Hoffman, Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Adams, Laura Dern and others and now we’ve got some photos of several locations and sets that should make their way into the film. The wounds of previously losing a new Paul Thomas Anderson film run deep, so the more news that breaks on that film now that it’s happening, the better. We’re finally going to see another film from the man behind Hard Eight, Boogie Nights, Magnolia and There Will Be Blood and the currently untitled project, formerly called The Master, has just added two names to its already impressive cast. Jesse Plemons, who became one of the best parts of NBC’s Friday Night Lights in its final seasons, has been cast as the son of Philip Seymour Hoffman‘s character while David Warshofsky, who worked with Anderson on There Will Be Blood, will play a detective. Also in the movie are Joaquin Phoenix and Laura Dern. Read more after the break. Read More »
Paul Thomas Anderson‘s new movie is actually happening. This we confirmed earlier this month when The Weinstein Company picked up worldwide rights to the project, formerly called The Master, which stars Philip Seymour Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix in a currently untitled movie about “a man who returns after witnessing the horrors of WWII and tries to rediscover who he is in post-war America. He creates a belief system, something that catches on with other lost souls.” As the man behind Boogie Nights and Magnolia gets ready to start shooting next month, a very sparse teaser image has appeared across the Atlantic at the Cannes Film Festival. It’s not much but, if you’re a PTA fan, then this image just enhances the reality that this movie is finally coming to fruition. Read More »
Over three years have passed since the release of Paul Thomas Anderson‘s last film, There Will Be Blood, and we’re at the point now where any shred of news on his future projects is of interest to someone. We know that he is prepping two films, an adaptation of the Thomas Pynchon novel Inherent Vice and a film about a religious/cult leader that has been dubbed The Master. Slight casting movement on The Master (perhaps better called the Untitled Paul Thomas Anderson Religious Film) suggests that is the movie that he’ll shoot next.
And now a report pushes forward the idea that the director is getting closer to shooting something, and that he might use the same Super Panavision 70 cameras that were used to shoot 2001 and parts of Inception. Read More »
