When exactly will audiences have the chance to see The Green Knight, director David Lowery‘s (Pete’s Dragon, A Ghost Story) cinematic reimagining of the Arthurian legend? The movie was removed from the release calendar at the end of April, and a week later, Lowery himself was saying that “no one knows” when it will see the light of day. Up until last week, A24’s new David Lowery film The Green Knight was still on the schedule to hit theaters on May 29. That seemed very unlikely, what with the majority of movie theaters still closed, and sure enough, The Green Knight‘s release date is now being listed as TBA. So what now? Does A24 wait for the all-clear to drop The Green Knight into theaters? Or will they give us the fantasy epic on VOD? According to Lowery, “no one knows” the answer at the moment.

David Lowery takes on part of the Arthurian legend with The Green Knight, a medieval fantasy film coming from A24. Dev Patel is Sir Gawain, “King Arthur’s reckless and headstrong nephew, who embarks on a quest to confront the eponymous Green Knight, a gigantic green-skinned stranger.” Since this is a David Lowery film, you can bet it’s not going to be your typical fantasy epic.
