Hannah Simone is best known for her role as CeCe on the FOX comedy series New Girl, but that show is coming to an end with the seventh and final season. Her new gig will be taking on the moniker of a superhero.
In case you didn’t hear, The Greatest American Hero is being remade at ABC. The original series ran for three seasons and focused on a teacher who suddenly and reluctantly becomes a superhero when aliens give him a special suit that grants him powers that he has no idea how to use…especially after he loses the instruction manual that he could barely understand to begin with. Channing Dungey, President ABC Entertainment, spoke with reporters about the network’s upcoming pilot slate after her Television Critics Association executive session. One in development is a gender flipped Indian-American Greatest American Hero from Fresh off the Boat showrunner Nahnatchka Khan.
“We’re actually developing a reboot of The Greatest American Hero that stars an Indian American woman,” Dungey said. “That comes to us from Nahnatchka Khan.”

In the early ’80s, comic book fans didn’t have a lot of options to see costumed heroes on TV and in movies. Outside of the big-screen Superman films and The Incredible Hulk on TV, the offerings were pretty slim. But William Katt wore a red costume as the title character in The Greatest American Hero, an original TV series that centered around a schoolteacher who acquires a super-powered suit from aliens, but loses the instructions and has to learn the hero game by trial and error. Now Fox is prepping a new Greatest American Hero TV series, with The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street writer/directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller as guiding producers.
