Movie stars, directors, producers and writers get the credit, but without concept artists they’d be nowhere. That goes double for an animated feature like The Croods, which is about an isolated family discovering a world of wonder and beauty they never thought imaginable.
The film, featuring the voices of Nicolas Cage, Ryan Reynolds Emma Stone, Catherine Keener, Clark Duke and Cloris Leachman, is out March 22 and it’ll be followed by The Art of the Croods, a hardcover book with over 400 pieces of concept art written by Noela Hueso.
/Film is proud to exclusively debut five piece of Croods concept art from the book, each showing a beautiful new facet of the DreamWorks film. Read More »

DreamWorks Animation doesn’t have quite the consistent track record that Pixar does, but when they get it right, they really get it right. Kung Fu Panda and How to Train Your Dragon have been among the best non-Disney animated features in recent years, and Madagascar is the rare franchise that seems to be improving with each installment.
Their next project combines Dragon co-director Chris Sanders and Space Chimps writer-director Kirk De Micco with a star-studded cast (Emma Stone, Nicolas Cage, Ryan Reynolds, etc.) to tell the tale of a prehistoric family venturing out of their cave to explore the strange, colorful world outside. Check out a new sneak peek after the jump.

DreamWorks just took a giant bath on Rise of the Guardians, but is soldiering on with the task of selling its upcoming slate. The next release from the company’s animation arm is The Croods, an Ice Age-style story about a prehistoric human family who daughter (voiced by Emma Stone) is desperate to explore the outside world. The Croods are forced out of their cave only to come face to face with a strapping young hero (voiced by Ryan Reynolds) willing to guide them away from the end of the world.
This new trailer isn’t as effective as the first teaser was, in part, I think, because it focuses on goofier lowbrow humor, rather than spectacle. But there’s an audience that will love this, I’m sure, so have a look below. Read More »
For DreamWorks Animation’s upcoming film, The Croods, the voice cast alone is enough to get me interested: Nicolas Cage, Ryan Reynolds, Emma Stone, Catherine Keener, Clark Duke and Cloris Leachman. Then some enticing images were released that showed an extended family of cave people who are about to have their idea of the world changed forever. Now the teaser trailer has come online and it’s an exciting blend of those two things. We hear exactly why directors Chris Sanders (How to Train Your Dragon) and Kirk DeMicco cast these characters, we get a sense of who they are, and we get a beautiful tease of what’s to come when the film is released March 22, 2013. Check it below. Read More »
Most movie studios release information about their upcoming slates a year or two at a time. But today DreamWorks Animation released a four-year slate, driven in part by the new distribution deal the company has with Fox, as well as the long lead time needed to make animated films, and also perhaps by the not-so-hot view of the publicly-traded company on Wall Street.
We’ve known that DA has a mind towards heavy sequel production, and that is reflected in this slate, with dates for two more How to Train Your Dragon films, another Kung Fu Panda sequel, and another Madagascar spinoff. But, in addition to films we know about (The Croods, Turbo) there are some other new projects that adapt kids books, and more details on the previously-announced animated Bollywood-style musical. Next year, you’ll be able to see Nicolas Cage playing a caveman. And by “see” I mean “hear.” He’s the star of The Croods, a brand new 3D animated film from DreamWorks Animation. The film, directed by Chris Sanders and Kirk DeMicco, is about a prehistoric family traversing a wild environment looking for a new cave to call home. In addition to Cage, Ryan Reynolds, Emma Stone, Catherine Keener, Clark Duke, and Cloris Leachman all lend their voices. The scheduled release date is March 22, 2013.
After the jump, check out a brand new image from the film that offers the best look at the family yet. Read More »
Here are new images for a couple of upcoming CG animated features. One is Sony’s Hotel Transylvania, featuring the efforts of Dracula (Adam Sandler) to celebrate the birthday of his daughter Mavis (Selena Gomez), which end up being complicated by the attentions of a regular ol’ human (Andy Samberg). The movie is directed by Genndy Tartakovsky (The Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack, Star Wars: Clone Wars) which for me at least, represents the primary appeal of the project.
There’s also The Croods from Dreamworks Animation, featuring the voices of Nicolas Cage, Ryan Reynolds, Emma Stone, Catherine Keener, Clark Duke, and Cloris Leachman in a story about a prehistoric family of early humans.
New looks at both films showed up this week. That’s Mavis from Hotel Transylvania, above, and we’ve got a big image for The Croods below. Read More »
Disney and Pixar have always been the undisputed champions of animation but a new contender has been rising in the ranks over the last several years: DreamWorks. The studio that brought us the Shrek films, Antz, Chicken Run, Madagascar, Bee Movie and many others has been fighting the good fight for the better part of a decade and while they have yet to over take Disney and Pixar, their upcoming slate sounds like they’re once again swinging for the fences. On Tuesday, DreamWorks Animation announced their upcoming slate all the way from this summer’s Kung Fu Panda 2 through 2014 when they’ll release How To Train Your Dragon 2 on June 20. In between, they’re preparing original films featuring the likes of Chris Pine, Alec Baldwin, Hugh Jackman, Isla Fisher, Jude Law, Nicolas Cage, Ryan Reynolds, Emma Stone and many others. The films are as follows:
