Here’s something unexpected: The Accountant, the 2016 action movie where Ben Affleck crunches a lot of numbers and shoots a lot of people, was somehow the most rented movie of 2017. It seems that even in an era where thousands upon thousands of films are available to stream on platforms like Netflix, audiences will still go out of their way to rent a Ben Affleck action flick.

When The Accountant arrived last fall, it wasn’t exactly a runaway hit. It pulled in $86 million domestically on a budget of $44 million, plus another $68 million globally. However, it seems to have found an even bigger audience on home video, not unlike Edge of Tomorrow, because Warner Bros. is officially developing a sequel. Read More »

Today brings The Accountant to theaters everywhere, and audiences can decide for themselves if Ben Affleck makes the grade as a genius with numbers, or if he should have just left that to his buddy Matt Damon in Good Will Hunting.
But before you go see the movie, if you’d like an introduction to the character of Christian Wolff played by Ben Affleck, a motion comic from DC Comics gives us a little story involving the work that he does for shady criminal organizations. First he crunches the numbers, but then he can also handle himself if things get out of hand.

This weekend brings Gavin O’Connor‘s action thriller The Accountant to theaters, giving us a second round of Ben Affleck action following his debut as the Dark Knight in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The trailer promised an engaging thriller following an assassin under the guise of an accountant who also happens to fall on the autism spectrum. So how did the movie turn out? The consensus seems to be that the movie’s concept and plot are rather ridiculous, but that doesn’t stop the movie from being enjoyable while also garnering comparisons to Batman.

Ben Affleck may be pretty unhinged as Batman in the DC Comics cinematic universe, but another Warner Bros. Pictures project sees the actor playing another character who may be just as dangerous, but in a completely different way.
In The Accountant, the Oscar-winning filmmaker takes the lead role as a gifted accountant who takes care of the finances of some of the most dangerous people on the planet. But his life doesn’t end up in danger until he starts looking into the account of a robotics company where he learns that millions of dollars are unaccounted for, thanks to another accounting clerk who may end up getting too close to both her client and the title character for her own good.

Director Gavin O’Connor (Warrior) last boarded a moving train with Jane Got a Gun, a project that was plagued with problems before he arrived on set. The Western quickly disappeared from theaters this year, but it’s hard to blame O’Connor, who typically delivers quality dramas. The director’s new film, The Accountant, opens in theaters later this year. The thriller stars Ben Affleck, Anna Kendrick, J.K. Simmons, Jon Bernthal, Jean Smart, Jeffrey Tambor, and John Lithgow.

Cool Posts From Around the Web:
Warner Bros. has been in the Ben Affleck business for years, and that relationship only deepened after Affleck’s Argo won the Best Picture Oscar. But there’s a business that seemingly trumps the Ben Affleck biz, and that’s the superhero game. And so while WB has two Affleck films on the slate for the coming months — the already-shot The Accountant, and his next directorial effort Live By Night — the two films have been pushed back.
The supposition is that Warner Bros. is making room for more Batman, including the solo film to be co-written and directed by Affleck. Read More »

Affleck is in talks for The Accountant, about “an accountant who doubles as an assassin.” Assuming things go to plan, the film will be directed by Gavin O’Connor (Warrior, Jane Got a Gun). Read More »
