Swamp Thing is not Mark Verheiden’s first comic book adaptation. He wrote the screenplay for Timecop, based on his own comic, and the screenplay for The Mask. He also wrote for Daredevil on Netflix. Now he is running DC Universe’s Swamp Thing alongside Gary Dauberman.
Verheiden spoke with /Film by phone this week. Swamp Thing was originally going to run 13 episodes but the last three were cut. He addressed that and the development of the streaming series in our interview. Swamp Thing premieres today.

The full Swamp Thing trailer is here in all its icky horror. The new DC Universe show brings the DC comics character to life, with producer James Wan working behind-the-scenes. Swamp Thing underwent some production woes earlier this year, reducing its first season from a planned thirteen episodes down to only ten. But that doesn’t mean the series will turn out to be a disappointment. At the very least, the series looks to be embracing its horror roots, and employing some nifty practical effects to boot. The comic book character Swamp Thing hasn’t appeared in film or television in a significant way since the 1990s, but that’s about to change when he gets his own live-action series on the DC Universe streaming service this summer.
We caught a quick glimpse of the character in a brief teaser last week, but now there’s a full trailer for the upcoming show that leans into the horror angle and capitalizes on the fact that James Wan (The Conjuring, Insidious) is executive producing the series. Check it out below.

Earlier today, we reported that Swamp Thing wrapped production early due to “creative differences,” with a truncated 10-episode season set to debut on the DC Universe streaming at the end of May.
