If you haven’t been to the movies much this year, you aren’t alone. So far, Hollywood’s 2015 offerings have been pretty lackluster. Kingsman: The Secret Service and Paddington are rare exceptions amiss a slew of big budget movies that have either been terrible, or that just underperformed terribly. Some examples are Jupiter Ascending, Seventh Son, Strange Magic, Blackhat, Mortdecai and Focus.
But it this different than usual? January and February are traditionally two of the weakest months both in terms of box office and critical acclaim. Well, it turns out this year has been historically bad. When we weren’t crying over the Nationwide ad, singing along to Katy Perry’s halftime show, or screaming / cackling at Pete Carroll’s ill-fated fourth-quarter call, we were oohing and ahhing over the many many Super Bowl movie trailers unveiled last night.

It’s been four year since we first reported on Seventh Son (then called The Last Apprentice), three years since the film went into production, and two years since its originally scheduled release date. But the movie somehow still hasn’t hit theaters, so today we have a new Seventh Son trailer to share with you.
Jeff Bridges leads the production as Master Gregory, the last member of a mystical order. He takes a prophesied hero named Tom Ward (Ben Barnes) under his wing, and together they two battle an evil witch queen (Julianne Moore) from unleashing hell. Hit the jump to watch the new Seventh Son trailer.

Seventh Son has been coming for so long at this point, it’s almost surprising to realize it hasn’t actually arrived yet. But it will be here soon. Universal and Legendary have the fantasy adventure slated for release early next year, and today the first Seventh Son trailer has finally surfaced.
Directed by Sergey Bodrov, Seventh Son chronicles an ancient battle between mankind and supernatural forces. On one side are Master Gregory (Jeff Bridges) and his new apprentice Tom Ward (Ben Barnes), on the other is the powerful witch Mother Malkin (Julianne Moore). Not that it’s a big surprise, but Universal and Legendary made it official today that up to 15 of their big upcoming tentpole films will be released in IMAX. Among them are the previously announced Crimson Peak by Guillermo del Toro, as well as Jurassic World, Warcraft, Fast and Furious 7, Dracula Untold, Everest and Seventh Son. In addition to moving Warcraft away from Star Wars Episode VII, Universal dated a slew of major movies on this Thanksgiving Eve. They are as follows:
- An Untitled Michael Mann film starring Chris Hemsworth will be released January 16, 2015.
- Jennifer Lopez‘s thriller The Boy Next Door opens January 23, 3015.
- The long delayed epic Seventh Son gets the new release date of February 6, 2015.
- Andy Muschietti‘s reboot of The Mummy hits April 22, 2016.

The public divorce between Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. continues. The two companies are currently figuring out what to do with projects they’re both involved in, and the latest victim is Seventh Son, the Jeff Bridges fantasy film directed by Sergey Bodrov. Co-produced by Legendary and Warner Bros., the film will now be released by Universal as part of the new deal with Legendary.
Seventh Son, which has been at Comic-Con the past two years, currently has a January 17, 2014 release date. But that was with Warner Bros. Now word is that Universal will come up with a new date and marketing strategy. Read More »

The Big Lebowski co-stars Jeff Brides and Julianne Moore are back on set together, but their latest project couldn’t be further away from the Coen Brothers’ sun-bleached SoCal landscape. Directed by Sergei Bodrov, The Seventh Son unfolds in a fantasy universe where demons, ghosts, and witches tread.
Ben Barnes (The Chronicles of Narnia) stars as Tom Ward, who becomes apprenticed to a Spook named John Gregory (Bridges) and battles supernatural forces. Moore plays the villain of the piece, the powerful witch Mother Malkin. The first photos have just hit the web, and you can check them out after the jump.
