2019 Emmys Speeches

Last night brought the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards to FOX, and well, we’re just glad that the awards and acceptance speeches were remarkable, because the broadcast of television’s biggest night wasn’t super enjoyable. Without a host, the show felt nearly lifeless, and the few moments of entertainment came from a handful of presenters and the wonderful, consistent, and silly presence of Thomas Lennon. 2019 Emmy Nominations

It’s almost time to honor the finest achievements in television again. The 71st Primetime Emmy Awards will air this fall, but before that, we need to know who has been nominated for the most coveted awards in television. Covering drama, comedy, variety, reality, animation and more, the Emmys honor the best in television and streaming, and this year is full of a wide spectrum of nominees from network, cable, and various streaming services.

The big news is Game of Thrones finished its television run with a record-setting 32 nominations this year, the most for any program in a single season, beating the previous record set by NYPD Blue. Meanwhile, on the comedy side of things, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel landed 20 nominations, and in the limited series category, Chernobyl made a big showing with 19 total nominations.

The Favourite Review

The long march through awards season continues today with the announcement of the 24th Critics Choice Awards nominations. It might seem predictable that a period film like The Favourite came out on top of the pack with 14 nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director and nominations for the three stars, Olivia Colman, Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz, you might be surprised that the Marvel Studios blockbuster Black Panther wasn’t far behind with 12 nominations, including Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay.

AFI awards 2018

The American Film Institute, the film school and film history organization famous for alumni like Darren Aronofsky, Patty Jenkins, Terrence Malick, and David Lynch, has announced the honorees of this year’s AFI Awards. The organization voted on ten movies and ten television series that are “artistically significant” and represent “the year’s most outstanding achievements in the art of the moving image”, and the winners include movies like If Beale Street Could Talk, BlacKkKlansman, Eighth Grade, and shows like Atlanta and Barry. ‘Pose’ Renewed for Season 2 at FX

Get ready to strike a Pose for a second season. The critically acclaimed Ryan Murphy series about the rise of the ball culture world in 1980s New York has been renewed for season 2 by FX. And now that FX has renewed Pose for season 2, it creates an exciting new precedent for major TV dramas lead by a majority transgender cast.

Writer/producer Ryan Murphy has been a creative force at FX since his days working on Nip/Tuck, and he’s built a television empire that includes the American Horror Story, and American Crime Story anthology shows for that network. Now he’s back in business with FX once again for Pose, a dance musical show set in the 1980s that will feature “the largest cast of transgender actors in series regular roles and the largest recurring LGBTQ cast ever for a scripted television series.”
