The first wave of reviews for Tom Ford‘s Nocturnal Animals are mostly positive. The critics who aren’t particularly taken with Ford’s romantic crime thriller describe it as a hollow piece of work. Ford’s moving debut A Single Man received similar criticisms from its few detractors, so it sounds like we should expect a similar response to his latest film, although it looks and sounds like a completely different movie.

Fashion extraordinaire Tom Ford‘s second feature film is finally coming out. Ford made his directorial debut six years ago with A Single Man, a beautiful and often painful film about love and loss, and now he’s back with a very different type of movie. His latest, Nocturnal Animals, sounds like a real trip, almost like two films in one that, according to critics, calls to mind the works of Douglas SirkAlfred Hitchcock, and Sam Peckinpah. Those are some lofty comparisons. Based on the early reviews, though, Tom Ford earns them.

Armie Hammer joining Nocturnal Animals

After becoming a 1960s Russian spy in The Man from U.N.C.L.E. earlier this year, Armie Hammer joining Nocturnal Animals, a dramatic tale of a story within a story that is the next film from A Single Man director Tom Ford.

Focus Features is behind the production based on Austin Wright’s novel Tony and Susan, and Hammer has a key role in the that focuses on a woman (Amy Adams) who receives a book manuscript from her ex-husband, a man whom she left 20 years earlier, asking for her opinion. New Tom Ford Film

Tom Ford made his directorial debut with the film A Single Man, and now, six years later, he is pulling together a cast for his follow-up. The new film is Nocturnal Animals, based on the book Tony and Susan by Austin Wright. The novel follows a woman who reads her ex-husband’s new novel, and finds the thriller plot of the manuscript becoming intertwined with the plot of the primary story. Now Ford has two great leads for the movie as Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal are in talks to sign on.
