This weekend brings the 92nd Academy Awards, honoring achievements in film from the year 2019. There are nine movies nominated for Best Picture, each bringing something different to the table. Well, they mostly bring something different to the table, even though the some of the movies share Al Pacino, Scarlett Johansson, Robert De Niro, Laura Dern, and Tracy Letts. Oh, and they also have a lot of white people dancing. Parasite

Last weekend, the 2020 SAG Awards honored achievements in acting in both film and television from last year. When it comes to the film side of the awards, there weren’t really any surprises, at least not until the award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture was handed out. Netflix Best Picture Nominees

Here we go again. In what is becoming a tradition, AMC and Regal Theater chains are refusing to screen Netflix’s Best Picture nominees, because that’s just how they roll. The chains typically do a showcase of Best Picture nominees in which they bring the nominated movies back to theaters, but the two Netflix titles – The Irishman and Marriage Story – won’t be included. The same thing happened last year with Netflix’s Roma.

Parasite - 2020 PGA Award Nominations

Hot on the heels of the Writers Guild of America chiming in with their award nominations for the films of 2019, the Producers Guild of America is revealed the nominees for their 31st annual awards ceremony. There aren’t really any surprises among the nominees for film with Ford v Ferrari, The Irishman, Jojo Rabbit, Joker, Knives Out, Little Women, Marriage Story, and Parasite all landing a nomination for the PGA’s equivalent of Best Picture. Rounding out the noms are recent Golden Globe winners 1917 and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
