Teaming up two unlikely partners for a buddy cop comedy is a cinematic cliche. That formula gets even more ridiculous when one of those characters is a grizzled, grumpy detective and the other is a precocious, ambitious little kid. We’ve seen this exact scenario play out before in the 1993 family comedy Cop and a Half starring Burt Reynolds, and now that premise is being revived for a reboot.
Cop and a Half: New Recruit sees Lou Diamond Phillips playing a detective not all that dissimilar from the one Burt Reynolds played in the original 1993 version. But this time, the cop in question is teamed up with a spunky 12-year old girl (Lulu Wilson of Ouija: Origin of Evil and Annabelle: Creation) eager to lay down the law. Believe it or not, this is a real movie getting released next week and you can watch the trailer right now. Read More »

Directed by Patricia Riggan, The 33 dramatizes those real-life events — both the men’s struggle to survive underground and the efforts of their loved ones, government officials, and rescue workers aboveground. The horror anthology is alive and well once again, thanks in large part to V/H/S, its upcoming sequel (reviewed here) and The ABCs of Death. The latest horror anthology is Sanitarium, in which three directors — Bryan Ramirez, Kerry Valderrama and Bryan Oritz — tell three tales of institutions for the insane.
Malcolm McDowell leads the cast, and narrates this trailer with a chillingly ironic sense of cold observation. This red-band trailer for the film won’t give you too much structure for each of the three plots, but it does suggest a few of the horrors that wait within the institution. The cast also features Robert Englund, Lacey Chabert, Lou Diamond Phillips, John Glover, and Walter Perez. Check out a trailer below. Read More »
