HBO Max finally set its official launch date this morning, and with that announcement, the forthcoming WarnerMedia streaming platform released the first trailers for the HBO Max Originals that will debut on day one.

Half a dozen HBO Max Originals will be available to watch on the day of the platform’s launch on May 27, including the new comedy series Love Life starring Anna Kendrick, a powerful Sundance documentary On the Record, and several new children’s shows for the quarantined kids who are craving new content. WarnerMedia has set the official launch date for its buzzy streaming platform HBO Max. The streaming service, which will contain library content from Warner Bros. and its ancillary movie studios and TV networks including HBO, New Line, DC Entertainment, CNN, TNT, TBS, truTV, The CW, Cartoon Network, and more, will debut half a dozen original titles on day one.

On the surface, a report about Dwayne Johnson signing on to star in another big action movie is about as unsurprising as movie news can get. Of course The Rock has joined another new movie because that’s what The Rock does – he fills every square inch of his available schedule with another movie he wants to shoot. However, it’s the little details that make Skyscraper sound like an interesting project to keep your eye on. Not because of plot (details are scarce), but because this is one of those films that sounds like it will be carefully constricted to appeal to an international audience. This is what the future of mainstream moviemaking looks like.

king kong vs godzilla

We’ve wondered what other details lay behind Legendary‘s move of Kong: Skull Island from Universal to Warner Bros., as the idea that WB was just a better fit for the movie seemed to be only part of the story. I wouldn’t say we know all the details yet, but a few revelations were dropped today about the state of the relationship between Universal and Legendary, and what is in store for Kong and Godzilla at Warner Bros.

The short version is that we’ll likely see a three-picture series at WB, with Skull Island being the first, Godzilla 2 being the second, and a third “King Kong vs Godzilla” film in which the two creatures will fight… or possibly even team up.  Read More »
