The first season of Miracle Workers focused on Daniel Radcliffe, Geraldine Viswanathan, and Karan Soni as employees in heaven trying to stop God (Steve Buscemi) from destroying Earth. Now the show is returning for a second season, but since it was crafted as an anthology series, it’s going in a completely different direction and has absolutely nothing to do with the story from the first season. But not everything is different.
Miracle Workers: Dark Ages takes the same cast from the first season and turns them into medieval villagers just trying to get by in one of the most difficult and dark periods in human history. Needless to say, things are pretty bleak when people get excited to watch someone get killed in the middle of the village square. Watch the Miracle Workers: Dark Ages trailer for a glimpse. Though they might not be huge hits in the ratings department, TBS has curated some fantastic comedies with incredible talent in recent years. Along with their consistently great late night presence featuring Conan O’Brien and Samantha Bee, they’ve also had outstanding shows like Detour, Wrecked, Search Party, Angie Tribeca, and The Final Space. But their latest offering looks like it takes things to another level.

Safety Not Guaranteed starts out with a simple premise: Three employees from a Seattle weekly magazine are assigned to go on a trip to find and interview a guy who placed a mysterious classified ad seeking a companion for time travel. (The ad is seen above).

Funny folks Jeff Garlin and Mary Lynn Rajskub have signed on for Safety Not Guaranteed, which will also star Kristen Bell, Aubrey Plaza (Parks & Recreation), Lynn Shelton (Humpday), Jenica Bergere (Rat Race), Jake Johnson (No Strings Attached), Mark Duplass, and newcomer Karan Soni. The comedy centers around “three magazine employees sent to investigate a classified ad from a man seeking a partner for time travel” and is based on an actual ad that was once featured on the Jay Leno Show.
Safety Not Guaranteed will be the first feature by Colin Trevorrow, who is directing from Derek Connolly‘s original screenplay. Big Beach Films (Little Miss Sunshine) and Duplass Brothers Productions (The Puffy Chair) are producing, which should probably give you some hint as to what kind of humor and general vibe we can expect. The film is currently shooting in Seattle. [The Hollywood Reporter]
After the jump, Hilary Swank considers co-starring with Jeremy Renner and a Silence of the Lambs parody musical hits Off Broadway.
