In the summer of 2018, comic book writer Mark Millar, who is behind titles like Kingsman and Kick-Ass, struck a deal with Netflix to create his own “Millarworld” — a brand of movies and TV shows for the streaming service based on his work. And finally, we’re about to see the first one. Jupiter’s Legacy is based on Millar’s 2013 comic series inspired by the Golden Age of Comics, about the intergenerational conflict between the old heroes and the new. Just last week, Netflix released a teaser revealing that Mark Millar‘s new superhero series Jupiter’s Legacy would be arriving on the streaming service this May. Back in the summer of 2018, comic creator Mark Millar struck a deal with Netflix to turn several titles from his Millarworld brand into movies and TV shows for the streaming service, and the first one will finally arrive this year.
Jupiter’s Legacy is a new superhero series based on the comic of the same name from Millar and illustrator Frank Quitely. We’ve yet to get an official first look at the show starring Josh Duhamel (Transformers), but Netflix has debuted a Jupiter’s Legacy teaser to announce the show’s arrival this May, and it comes with a warning that is ominous yet hopeful. Jupiter’s Legacy is off to a shaky start. Netflix’s adaptation of the Mark Millar superhero comic book has lost showrunner Steven S. DeKnight, who stepped down over creative differences. But DeKnight’s exit comes halfway through production of the eight-episode first season, leaving Netflix scrambling for a replacement as filming continues.

Netflix purchased comic book writer Mark Millar‘s Millarworld company last year, and they’ve already teamed up to release the streaming service’s first comic book, The Magic Order. But Netflix didn’t buy Millar’s company solely to make comic books: they’re in it for that sweet, sweet intellectual property.
The first batch of Millarworld movies and TV shows was announced this morning, and they include movie adaptations of Empress, Huck, and Sharkey the Bounty Hunter and TV series based on American Jesus and Jupiter’s Legacy. Read more about each of these new Mark Millar Netflix projects below.
