The film that most directly influences May’s Avengers: Age of Ultron is Captain America: The Winter Soldier. In that film, the group known as S.H.I.E.L.D. falls when its revealed that they’ve long been infiltrated by the evil group, Hydra. At the end of that movie, S.H.I.E.L.D is almost totally gone and in the new movie, it’s The Avengers who are protecting the world.
Of course, we know S.H.I.E.L.D. isn’t totally gone because there’s a TV show, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, that’s still going on. In the show’s first season, we saw how the events of The Winter Soldier directly influenced and changed the show and in Tuesday’s episode, One Door Closes, we’ll see more of what happened on that day. The show flashs back to “The Day S.H.I.E.L.D Fell” to show what Bobbi (Adrianne Palicki) was doing that day along with Mack (Henry Simmons) and even Agent Robert Gonzales (Edward James Olmos), who kept S.H.I.E.L.D. together after the attacks.
