Update: Disney and Lucasfilm have confirmed to us that this art was not created by them for the movie and are not aware of its origins. We have added thoughts on its potential origins below.
Solo: A Star Wars Story is supposed to open in just a few months and Lucasfilm has yet to unveil a trailer. Or a teaser. Or even a proper photo of the cast in-character. We haven’t even seen an official look at Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo yet! Sure, this is all because of the troubled production and the extensive reshoots, but it’s been giving Star Wars fans grey hairs.
But now, international promotional art showing off the film’s characters has arrived online and it gives us a look at Han, Lando, Chewbacca, a new mystery character, and the Millennium Falcon.

There are five months remaining until Solo: A Star Wars Story hits theaters, but we don’t know much about it beyond its star-studded cast and its highly publicized behind-the-scenes troubles. That, and the bold claims that the cast and crew have been making during the press rounds as they try to describe the film as vaguely as possible (because Disney snipers are watching). Is it a heist film? A space western? A comedy?
Let’s add “gangster film” to that growing list of superlatives. Paul Bettany, who joined the Han Solo prequel shortly after Ron Howard stepped on as director, has some enthusiastic descriptions that may give us a clearer picture of the film as the hoopla over Star Wars: The Last Jedi cools down and the anticipation for Solo heats up.

It’s still the biggest geek news item of the year: original directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord were fired from Solo: A Star Wars Story and replaced with Ron Howard. The news that Lucasfilm has a heavy hand in Star Wars is noting new – Kathleen Kennedy reportedly clashed with J.J. Abrams during Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Gareth Edwards’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story underwent significant reshoots. But Lord and Miller were the reason many people were excited for a Han Solo spin-off. Their reputation as miracle workers preceded them.
After months of silence, the duo behind The LEGO Movie and 21 Jump Street have finally addressed the Max Rebo in the room. Here’s more on the Lord and Miller Solo firing, straight from Lord and Miller themselves.

If you’re a /Film reader, you’re probably familiar with the messy production of Solo: A Star Wars Story by now. We’ve written about the firing of original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the hiring of Ron Howard to finish the movie, how actor Michael K. Williams could not return for the reshoots, and how Paul Bettany stepped in to take his place. Now, we’ve reached the point where we can start talking about Solo as an actual movie and not something that is totally on fire.
Case in point: we can now talk a little about who Bettany is playing in the movie.

We’ve heard plenty about next year’s new Star Wars spin-off focusing on Han Solo. After a troubled production saw directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller let go from the project, only to be replaced by director Ron Howard, the film wrapped back in October and was finally given the official title of Solo: A Star Wars Story. But when will we get our first official look at the movie? It might be today.
Thanks to a new piece of promotional material from the Hawkins Theater chain, it appears that we have been given the first image of Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo in the spin-off that dives into the smuggler’s origin story. Check out the Solo: A Star Wars Story first look below. Read More »

Star Wars fans were caught by surprise over the summer when Lucasfilm fired directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller from the Star Wars spin-off film Solo: A Star Wars Story. Lord and Miller were replaced with Ron Howard, who reshot a large chunk of Solo, but Lord and Miller’s work will apparently still have a presence in the film: co-star Thandie Newton has just confirmed that at least 90% of her scenes were shot by the duo.

The Han Solo movie cameo list just became a lot more exciting, with director Ron Howard teasing a fan-favorite duo who are making their way from a non-canonical expanded universe far, far away.
That’s right, two Star Wars Legends characters will make a cameo in the Han Solo standalone prequel, starring Alden Ehrenreich as the young smuggler with a heart of gold. And rather than fading into obscurity like much of the now non-canon Star Wars expanded universe, here is definitive proof that they were here.
