The distinctive work of artist Francesco Francavilla has become a common sight within the pages of the comic book world and on the walls of various pop culture galleries. Now, he’s getting his own solo show courtesy of Mondo, who are dedicating their next gallery show to his comic book work, spotlighting his work for Marvel, DC, and Archie Comics. Four posters from the event, featuring the likes of Batman, Captain America, Groot, and Jose and the Pussycats, have been unveiled in advance.

On June 12, you can see Jurassic World in theaters everywhere and say “Welcome…to the Mondo Gallery” in Austin, TX. There, they’ll be hosting a full gallery show filled with art based on Steven Spielberg‘s blockbuster, Jurassic Park. It’s called When Dinosaurs Ruled The Earth and features original works and screenprints based on the film by artists such as Aaron Horkey, Ken Taylor, Dan McCarthy, Jock, Jason Edmiston, Brandon Holt and others. This weekend, the limited edition pop culture art craze hits its zenith with MondoCon. It’s the first, and hopefully not last convention put on by the Austin, Texas based company best known for highly collectible posters, LPs, VHS tapes and now toys. We’ve already let you in on a bunch of what’s going down at the event, which takes place September 20 & 21 at The Marchesa Hall & Theater in Austin, TX, and now we can exclusively reveal some more of the good stuff – POSTERS!
All of Mondo’s posters are screen printed. As a special treat for the fans at the Con, the Industry Print Shop will be on the floor of MondoCon. They’ll be live screenprinting t-shirts on demand by artists Daniel Danger, Mike Mignola, Rob Jones, Francesco Francavilla and Geof Darrow, plus they’ll be doing posters. Four posters in fact.

The first details from the first Mondo comic convention have now been revealed. Dubbed MondoCon, the show will take place September 20-21 in Austin Texas. So far, that’s really all we knew. Today we know much more. Mondo has revealed the first round of guests who’ll attend the convention, including Mike Mignola, Bernie Wrightson, Phantom City Creative, Jock, Jay Shaw, Jason Edmiston, Francesco Francavilla and many others.
The’ve also revealed the event won’t only be for posters. It’ll offer “new artwork and products as well as panels and special screenings” in the areas of film, music, and toys, as well as art. Tickets go on sale Thursday June 4 and cost $70 for both days or $35 for one day.

Though two recent remakes have tarnished the original’s reputation a tad, the 1981 Clash of the Titans remains a cult classic. Featuring Ray Harryhausen’s final visual effects, the film follows a hero named Perseus on an epic quest pitting him against Gods and monsters. It’s total Eighties cheese, but that lends itself perfectly to artist interpretation. Which is where Mondo comes in, as the outfit has chosen the film for two posters to kick off its 2014 offerings. They also just announced a mysterious event called Mondo Con that’ll take place in Austin, TX September 20-21, smack dab in the middle of Fantastic Fest.

If we’re lucky, every few months a poster is released that makes you step back from your computer and stare. A poster so gorgeous, fans and non-fans a like will bask in its beauty. Some previous examples are Olly Moss’s Star Wars posters, Ken Taylor’s Halloween poster, Tyler Stout’s Akira, Aaron Horkey’s There Will be Blood and now, you can add Tom Whalen‘s The Wizard of Oz to the list.
Whalen has long been a favorite, both here on /Film and in galleries across the country. Working consistently for Mondo and Gallery 1988 has helped the Pennsylvania-based artist develop quite a following and, as fantastic as his work always is, this poster – made for Mondo – takes the cake. It’s epic, evocative and sure to be incredibly difficult to obtain.

It’s the gallery show they were was born to do. In the past, Mondo has released posters for all the Universal Monsters: Dracula, Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, The Wolf Man, Creature from the Black Lagoon, Phantom of the Opera, The Invisible Man and The Mummy. Obviously, they’re monster fans, and after Mondo opened their own gallery, it was only a matter of time before the monsters took over that space. That time is now.
The Universal Monsters show at the Mondo Gallery opens on Friday October 19 and it’ll feature new work not only by top Mondo artists such as Martin Ansin, Kevin Tong, Ken Taylor, Jason Edminson, Rich Kelly, Phantom City Creative and JC Richard, living legends Rick Baker and Drew Struzan will also have work in the show. Yes, the Oscar winning makeup artist and greatest poster artist ever, returning just as we said he would.

On Wednesday, you knew it was going to be big. Game of Thrones and two different posters for The Dark Knight Rises were just the tip of the iceberg. The Mondo Booth at San Diego Comic-Con 2012 was a must visit during the convention, featuring hundreds of eager fans rabidly anticipating the next of several random surprise releases. Lines caused major problems with security and with the schedules of Con attendees desperate to get one of these posters but, mostly, people left happy. Some of the highlights included a Lord of the Rings trilogy set by J.C. Richard, Princess Mononoke by Olly Moss, Lego Lord of the Rings by Kevin Tong, several Adventure Time pieces and even a surprise visit by Guillermo Del Toro to autograph Mimic by Jay Shaw.
