Apollo Creed Ghost

Creed II continues the legacy connection to the classic Rocky franchise by having Michael B. Jordan‘s character Adonis Creed face-off with Viktor Drago (Florian Munteanu). He just so happens to be the son of Rocky Balboa’s dangerous opponent Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren), the man responsible for the death of his fellow boxer Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers). But instead of only continuing the legacy of Creed, it apparently almost featured an appearance by Apollo Creed himself in the form of a ghost. Read More »

Creed 2 deleted scenes

When Sylvester Stallone brought his famous cinematic boxer back to the ring in 2006’s Rocky Balboa, it was pretty unbelievable that a 60-year-old could hold his own against a pro fighter decades younger than him. That was thirteen years ago.

In 2018’s Creed II, Rocky was originally set to brawl yet again – this time in a street-level fight against his old rival Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren). The rematch between Balboa and Drago ended up being cut from the final movie, but you can get a glimpse at what it might have been like below, because Stallone has posted some rehearsal footage and explained the context for the scene.

creed 2 drago

By Rocky IV, Sylvester Stallone had to go bigger and bigger to find worthy opponents for Rocky Balboa. After defeating Apollo Creed in a rematch in Rocky II, he discovered Mr. T to play the street tough Clubber Lang in Rocky III. For Rocky IV, Stallone cast Dolph Lundgren as the Russian contender Ivan Drago to tower over both himself and Apollo Creed.

33 years later, the Dragos return in Creed II. Now Ivan has a son, Viktor, a boxer who wants to challenge Adonis Creed for the title. The Dragos come to Philadelphia and Ivan even confronts Rocky decades after their Russia bout.

Lundgren spoke with /Film by phone last week to discuss the return of Ivan Drago in Creed II. The film shows a father/son story paralleled with Adonis and Rocky, but it turns out there was even more to the Drago story that didn’t even make the final cut.

creed 2 drago
