Aneesh Chaganty Searching interview

Searching, an innovative new thriller about a father’s quest to find his missing teenage daughter, plays out entirely across computer screens and cell phones. That might sound like a gimmick, but aside from being an immersive way to tell this specific story, it has the effect of forcing us to reckon with the ways we use technology in our lives and how we communicate with others. For a story with such a tech-heavy presentation, it’s also surprisingly emotional, and that has a lot to do with the well-crafted story and the performances from stars John Cho, Debra Messing, and Michelle La.

The primary creative force behind this project is co-writer/director Aneesh Chaganty, who, amazingly, is making his feature directorial debut with this movie. I caught up with Aneesh during the Sundance Film Festival to talk about his inspirations for this story, the surprising scope of the film, how he conveyed the passage of time, and much more. Be sure to read my full review of the movie here, and enjoy our full Aneesh Chaganty Searching interview below. Read More »

Searching behind the scenes trailer

One of my favorite parts of this job is going to bat for movies I love and spreading the word about smaller films that might not be on everyone’s radar. I’ve been a vocal supporter of a fantastic thriller called Searching ever since I saw it at Sundance, where I gave it a 10/10 review. It’s my favorite movie of 2018 thus far, and since a new behind the scenes trailer hit the Internet today, of course I’m going to take it as another opportunity to convince as many people as possible to go see this movie when it comes out later this month.

Take a look at the new trailer below, which features some brief interviews with stars John Cho and Debra Messing.

Searching trailer

Circle August 3, 2018 on your calendars, add an event in your phone, do whatever you need to do to remember that date, because that’s when one of the year’s best movies arrives in theaters. Searching stars John Cho (Star Trek, Columbus) as a father whose teenaged daughter goes missing, and as his quest to find her intensifies, he realizes he may not have known her as well as he initially thought. I’ve seen the movie twice already and can say without reservation that this is one of the best movies of 2018.

will and grace revival first look

Will and Grace have made a miraculous comeback, and it’s all thanks to a “Get Out the Vote” sketch. No one was expecting a late ’90s/early 2000s sitcom about two gay guys and their straight girlfriends to be so relevant in 2017, but a hop, skip, and a Fox News joke later, and we’re as timely as you can get!

The first look at the Will and Grace revival teased new footage from the series return on NBC this month, interspersed with some footage from the good old days when ’90s TV was slightly grainier, and the world was a little less terrible. At least Jack has Grindr now.
