The nominations for the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards were announced this morning, and with so many TV shows out there for us to binge, there were bound to be some snubs. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is back, and it’s putting the ex in “extreme.”
The CW’s subversive romantic-comedy musical series is returning for a third season with a darker edge — literally. Our slightly unhinged heroine, Rebecca Bunch (played by series creator and writer Rachel Bloom) is now completely off the rails after being left at the altar by the man of her dreams, Josh Chan (Vincent Rodriguez III), and has returned with darker locks and vengeance on her mind.

This morning brought the cavalcade of nominations for the 69th Primetime Emmy Awards, which will be handed out in September. Westworld was out in front with a whopping 22 nominations for its freshman season while other debut shows like This Is Us, as well as continuing shows like Veep and Saturday Night Live, also landed a surprising number of nods. But there are only so many slots for nominees and plenty of shows were snubbed by the Television Academy. Thankfully, it wasn’t all bad news though as there were some pleasant (sometimes goofy) surprises as well.

Earlier today the 2016 Emmy nominations were announced, and you know what that means: it’s time to complain about how wrongheaded Emmy voters are for failing to recognize your favorite show. That’s part of the fun, right? But while we’re at it, it’s worth pointing out a few things they got right, too, even if — as in the case of The Americans — it took ’em a while. Netflix and The CW have announced a new partnership. For the next few years, Netflix will exclusively stream The CW’s content, including this year’s Archie television show Riverdale. Under this deal, eight days after the Riverdale season finale airs the entirety of season one will be ready to watch on Netflix, and the same goes for The CW’s other programs.

Marc Webb made his name on the offbeat not-quite-romcom (500) Days of Summer, but since then he’s been tangled up in the Amazing Spider-Man franchise. He directed the first two films, is set to direct the third, and may or may not be involved in any installments beyond that.
Fortunately, though, that’s not all he’s doing. Webb looks to be returning to his non-superpowered roots with Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, a Showtime musical comedy pilot from Aline Brosh McKenna (The Devil Wears Prada). More details after the jump.
