Jeremy Renner Isn’t Gunning for a Hawkeye Standalone

Jeremy Renner Hawkeye movie

For many stars, a Marvel contract means the possibility of a standalone movie, or several of them. Robert Downey Jr. has had three already, and Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth have had two each. Even Scarlett Johansson has been happy to play up the Black Widow movie rumors, though Kevin Feige‘s been dragging his feet about confirming anything just yet.

But there hasn’t been much chatter about a potential Hawkeye solo film — and Jeremy Renner, for one, seems totally okay with that. Instead, he’s looking forward to showing off his archery skills in Avengers: Age of Ultron and probably (wink, wink) Captain America 3. Hit the jump to read the new Jeremy Renner Hawkeye movie comments.

Chris Evans Captain America 2

In Hollywood, nothing and no one is infallible. At some point, Marvel Studios will realize that. Some thought The Avengers would be a problem; others assume this summer’s Guardians of the Galaxy would be their first misstep. Neither was. The Edgar Wright Ant-Man controversy is the next speed bump and, after that, the big issue could be the fact that many of Marvel’s major stars are ending their contracts. Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Samuel L. Jackson, and others who signed multi-picture contracts, will finish those deals in the coming years, leaving Marvel Studios with some major questions.

Chris Evans is among those actors whose contract will soon run out, and he has become the most discussed of the bunch. The reason being his latest film, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, offered two potential people to take over the role. In a new interview, Evans talked about this possibility, along with the plot of Captain America 3 and his newfound love of directing. Read the latest Chris Evans Captain America news here. Captain America Age of Ultron Concept

Here’s where we are in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Guardians of the Galaxy is a massive hit. Avengers: Age of Ultron is out next, but that’s not for another eight months. Ant-Man hits two months after that and is now filming. Once that is out, we’ll have to wait almost a full year for the following Marvel movie, Captain America 3.

Anthony and Joe Russo are coming back to helm that film, which opens May 6, 2016, and have already told us some things about it. We know they consider it the continuation of The Winter Soldier, which hits Blu-ray next month. We know Chris Evans will be back as Cap, along with Sebastian Stan as the Winter Soldier and Anthony Mackie as Falcon. We assume Frank Grillo will be back as Crossbones and that whatever happens to those characters in Avengers: Age of Ultron will be reflected in Cap 3.

Now we’ve learned some more. The first draft by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely is in, and production will start April 2015 in Atlanta, GA. They’ve also teased when we might hear the full Captain America 3 title, who else could be returning, what new characters might be introduced and more. If you’re looking forward to Captain America 3, you’ve gotta read below. Read More »

Captain America The Winter Soldier - Sam Wilson and Steve Rogers

We don’t know plans for the Captain America 3 ending, and frankly wouldn’t say if we did. The film is still two years away and hasn’t started production yet. With The Winter Soldier coming to Blu-ray, however, the Russo Brothers just happen to be talking about the film. Some of the biggest questions they’re fielding surround the fate of Chris Evans‘ character. The last film gave him two formidable characters to whom he might pass the Captain America shield: Sebastian Stan‘s Bucky and Anthony Mackie‘s Falcon. With Evans’ Marvel contract running out soon, that pass seems like a viable option.

It becomes even more of a viable option when you look at Marvel’s first threequel, Iron Man 3, which wrapped up Tony Stark’s story in a nice bow with a fourth film nowhere to be seen. Could Chris Evans’ Captain America story be ending on May 6, 2016 with a new hero continuing the story? Yes and no, say the directors. Read More »

Falcon Captain America 3

When Marvel Comics announced that Sam Wilson, typically known as the Falcon, would take up the mantle of Captain America in an upcoming comics storyline, fans assumed that the film franchise featuring the same characters might quickly follow suit. Marvel Studios will soon need to negotiate new contracts for its primary Avengers stars, after all, and there’s every reason to expect that guys like Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth will eventually want to lay down their costumes and weapons. So will Sam Wilson, played by Anthony Mackie on film, become Captain America? Not in the next movie, say the Captain America 3 screenwriters.  Read More »

Captain America 3 MODOK

Understandably, Captain America 3 scribe Christopher Markus hasn’t been very forthcoming about the overall plot of the new film. But he has been happy to discuss a certain baddie he really wants to introduce to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Even if he willingly admits it’s not likely to happen.

Asked about Captain America characters he hoped to use, Markus singled out MODOK — as he has been doing for the last three years. Hit the jump to read the quote, and get the details on his long and loving history with the oddball villain.

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice responses

DC has budged. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has moved from its May 6, 2016 release date and will now open on March 25, 2016. (Yes, March!) It now opens unopposed instead of in a direct showdown with Marvel Studios and Captain America 3. Read More »

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

We’re still almost a year from seeing how Captain America: The Winter Soldier will change the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Avengers: Age of Ultron, but talk has already turned to the film following the Avengers sequel. Ant-Man will follow a few months later, and then in May 2016, the Russo Brothers will release Captain America 3. In between — because there’s plenty of time — they’ll direct a few episodes of ABC’s Agent Carter. Talking about that job, the Russos dropped a few small hints about their Cap sequel. It’ll be set “a couple years” after Captain America: The Winter Soldier, feature Cap’s hunt for his best friend, and still have a political spin. Read some vague Captain America 3 plot quotes below.
