The Comey Rule Release Date

Last week, we got our first glimpse at the upcoming Showtime political drama miniseries The Comey Rule. Based on former FBI director James Comey‘s book A Higher Loyalty, the miniseries focuses on Russia’s manipulation of the United States election process in 2016 and the investigation into the Trump presidency that followed after evidence pointed to collusion between his campaign higher-ups and Russian operatives.

Much of the drama in The Comey Rule comes from the contentious relationship between Comey (Jeff Daniels) and President Donald Trump (Brendan Gleeson), making it a prime piece of entertainment for the 2020 election season. But Showtime was planning on releasing the miniseries in late November, well after the election was over. However, it seems a passionate plea from director Billy Ray, and perhaps James Comey himself, has changed their mind, because it will now air before the election. Read More »

New Terminator Sequel

Against all odds, the Terminator franchise is being kept alive thanks to producer James Cameron. The crippled sci-fi film series now has a home at 20th Century Fox, and Cameron is hoping to spark the beginning of a new Terminator trilogy, complete with original stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton reprising their roles as the T-800 killing machine and Sarah Connor respectively.

The new Terminator sequel already had a team of writers on board that included David Goyer (Man of Steel), Justin Rhodes (Green Lantern Corps.), Charles Eglee (Dark Angel) and Josh Friedman (Avatar 2), but now they’ve added another writer to the process. The Hunger Games and Captain Phillips writer Billy Ray has been brought on board to give the script one final polish. While we don’t know the story of this new Terminator sequel yet, some details on a couple new characters have emerged. Read More »

The news that Disney is making a film version of Don Quixote, the legendary 1605 book by Miguel de Cervantes that is often credited as being the root of the modern novel, is, by itself, not that surprising. Classic literally characters being reinvented by Hollywood is nothing new – just ask everyone from Sherlock Holmes to Robin Hood. But for film fans, Don Quixote carries a little extra weight. The news that the biggest entertainment conglomerate in the industry is taking on this iconic work will hopefully not be enough to give poor Terry Gilliam a heart attack.

Secret in Their Eyes (6)

Did Juan José Campanella‘s Secret in Their Eyes really need to get remade in English? Eh, probably not. But it happened anyway, so all we can really do now is hope for the best. At least there’s reason to be ever-so-slightly optimistic: Chiwetel EjioforJulia Roberts, and Nicole Kidman head up the new cast, and Billy Ray (Shattered Glass) directs.

That’s a solid lineup, if you can look past how very unnecessary this project seems to be in the first place. So what will the new version have to offer that the old one didn’t? Maybe the new Secret in Their Eyes trailer will have some clues. Watch it after the jump.  Read More »

Secret in Their Eyes (5)

You could argue that Juan José Campanella‘s 2009 Argentinian thriller Secret in Their Eyes didn’t really need an English-language remake, and you’d probably be right. But as far as unnecessary remakes go, this one actually looks pretty promising.

Directed by Billy Ray (Shattered Glass), the new Secret in Their Eyes stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Nicole Kidman, and Julia Roberts as three FBI colleagues whose lives were torn apart by a brutal murder. Many years later, Ray (Ejiofor) gets a lead that could finally resolve the case, only to uncover something even more destructive. See the Secret in Their Eyes trailer and images after the jump.
