Elvis Presley has been prominently featured in a number of films, ranging from the horror comedy of Bubba Ho-Tep to the meeting of Elvis and Tricky Dick in Elvis & Nixon. But there hasn’t been a definitive biopic about the man who was dubbed the King of Rock and Roll. That’s about to change with Moulin Rouge director Baz Luhrman tackling the musician’s life, and another name has just been added to the film’s cast. Over the weekend, Warner Bros. Pictures made some adjustments to their release calendar for the next couple of years. First up, the studio decided to move Denis Villeneuve‘s adaptation of the classic sci-fi novel Dune out of the busy weekend before Thanksgiving. Baz Luhrmann has found his Elvis. Austin Butler will play the King of Rock and Roll in Luhrmann’s upcoming, untitled film chronicling the troubled relationship between Elvis Presley and his manager Colonel Tom Parker. Tom Hanks is set to play Parker. Several young actors were competing for the role of Elvis, but the relatively unknown Butler ultimately won out.

The trailer for Jim Jarmusch‘s The Dead Don’t Die is here, and it looks unlike anything the Only Lovers Left Alive director has done before. Jarmusch has gathered together one impressive cast to tell a zombie-comedy story. What’s it about? We’re not entirely sure. Based on the novels by Terry Brooks, the fantasy drama follows a post-apocalyptic society threatened by demonic forces. The only hope for salvation rests in the hands of three heroes: Elven princess Amberle (Poppy Drayton), human Eretria (Ivana Baquero), and half-elf, half-human Wil (Austin Butler). Amid all the Miley Cyrus weed jokes, the Taylor Swift wins, and the #viral #unscripted #moments at last night’s VMAs, MTV debuted the first trailer for The Shannara Chronicles. Based on the novels by Terry Brooks, the fantasy drama unfolds centuries after a nuclear holocaust has wiped our current civilization off the map.

MTV is moving from the contemporary horror/comedy re-dos of Teen Wolf and Scream to realms of fantasy.
The channel has bankrolled The Shannara Chronicles, based on Terry Brooks‘ long-running series of fantasy novels. The first season is based on the second book, The Elfstones of Shannara, from when Brooks was still borrowing even more heavily from Tolkien than most fantasy writers of the ’70s and ’80s did.
