Brad Anderson, the filmmaker responsible for Session 9, The Machinist, Beirut and more, has a new thriller in the works. The director will helm Existence, inspired by the true story of a shipwrecked crew stranded on a remote island, forced to confront a group of people who have lived in a primal state for over 60,000 years. The Black List 2014 has been released. The annual list is compiled with a poll of over 250 development executives and high-level assistants, and contains a ranking of the hot screenplays making the rounds in Hollywoodland, which were written in, or are somehow uniquely associated with, 2014 and will not be released in theaters during this calendar year. Brad Anderson is a filmmaker I keep expecting to break out at any time. He’s made some great smaller thrillers with cultish appeal (Session 9, The Machinist) and built a good parallel career directing episodes of well-loved television shows: The Shield, The Wire, Treme and Fringe. But he hasn’t had the crossover movie yet.
