The Darkest Minds trailer

After directing Kung Fu Panda 2 and 3, filmmaker Jennifer Yuh Nelson is making the jump to live-action with The Darkest Minds, an adaptation of a YA novel about kids who develop super powers and strike back against their oppressive captors. 20th Century Fox has just released a new trailer, which concentrates more on the love story between Ruby (Amandla Stenberg) and Liam (Harris Dickinson), two of the most powerful mutants – uh, I mean, super-powered teenagers – of the revolution. the hate u give trailer

The Hate U Give trailer starts off like a fairly ordinary teen movie: Starr Carter (Amandla Stenberg) is a high school student who likes playing basketball with her rich, white prep school friends during the week, and partying with her friends from the poor, mostly black, neighborhood on the weekends. She likes hip-hop music and joking with her friends in the car.

But then things take a turn when she witnesses her childhood best friend killed by a police officer. The shooting sets off a domino effect that forces Starr to grapple with her place between her two different worlds, and wrestle with the injustice of the world.

The Darkest Minds trailer

Just when you thought the young-adult movie genre was just about to fizzle out, in comes The Darkest Minds. It’s everything you want and need in a YA movie: beautiful teens with inexplicably perfect hair, menacing government corporations, and a weird sci-fi twist. And that twist is superpowers.

Yeah, that teen superhero thing has already been done. Again. And again. But The Darkest Minds does have some impressive names behind it that may elevate it from a tired genre.

everything everything trailer

It’s a tragic story: two young teenagers fall in love, but one cannot go outside or she’ll die from her chronic illness. But maybe it’ll be worth the tears as long as it’s set to a baller pop soundtrack.

The new trailer for Everything Everything, the tearjerker romance based on a bestselling YA book by Nicola Yoon, highlights the movie’s trendy pop soundtrack, with songs by Skylar Stecker and Zedd & Alessia Cara. And new illustrated poster accompanies the trailer, emphasizing the sweet, whimsical nature of a young, budding romance.

Of course that last The Hunger Games poster wasn’t really the final one, no matter what the marketing folks claimed. But I’m not complaining. Two more banners have just dropped, promoting the film’s recently announced IMAX run. One is very much in line with the earlier poster, showing Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) taking aim with her trademark bow and arrow, while the other shows a uniformed Katniss in her training gear. In addition, we have a dozen new character photos of Haymitch (Woody Harrelson), Effie (Elizabeth Banks), Caesar (Stanley Tucci), and more, fresh from the official website. Check ’em out after the jump.

New ‘Hunger Games’ Stills and Set Photos [Gallery]

As excited I am for Gary RossThe Hunger Games, even I have to admit that some of the earlier news bits and marketing materials to trickle out were less than thrilling. Remember the time they spread out the very minor tribute casting announcements over weeks and weeks? Or those one-second clips they put out in advance of the teaser?

But thankfully, as the production has begun picking up speed, Lionsgate has been offering up better, more interesting stuff, like this new crop of gloriously high-res stills and set photos. Though not all of them are totally new — I believe we’ve already seen some of these images before, and we’ve definitely glimpsed several of these scenes in the trailer — I’m still happy to have some crystal-clear images of Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence), Cinna (Lenny Kravitz), Peeta (Josh Hutcherson), Rue (Amandla Stenberg), and others to feast my eyes on. Check out the gallery after the jump.

‘The Hunger Games’ Trailer

Here’s the first full trailer for the Gary Ross-directed adaptation of The Hunger Games, the first novel in Suzanne Collins‘ darkly futuristic trilogy of novels about teenagers chosen by lottery to fight to the death as representatives of their local district. Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth are the young leads in the Lionsgate film that could be the studio’s answer to Twilight, but hopefully with a harder edge.
