Amazon already has Bosch and Jack Ryan in their streaming library, and Jack Reacher will soon be joining them. But that’s not stopping the streaming service from collecting another show that your Dad won’t be able to get enough of.
Alex Cross, the detective, FBI agent, and psychologist who leads a series of books by author James Patterson is being lined up to get his own series at Amazon. The streamer has the project in development in collaboration with Skydance Television and Paramount Television Studios, which are also behind the Jack Ryan series and forthcoming Jack Reacher adaptation. Ever since Tyler Perry was first cast as Alex Cross in Summit’s James Patterson franchise reboot, fans have understandably been pretty skeptical. Remember, this is a role once played by the great Morgan Freeman in Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider. Any actor would have his work cut out for him following an act like that, but Perry in particular — who’s best known for his cross-dressing, comedic performances as Madea — seemed like an odd fit.
But the more optimistic among us were willing to give Perry the benefit of the doubt until we saw some footage, and now that the first trailer has hit we have a better idea of what Perry’s capable of in the part. The upcoming Alex Cross features the DC detective engaged in a cat-and-mouse game with Picass0 (a nearly unrecognizable Matthew Fox), a psychotic killer. Watch the trailer after the jump.

Holy crap, look at Matthew Fox! The Lost star plays a serial killer in Alex Cross, the Rob Cohen-directed adaptation of James Patterson‘s novel I, Alex Cross. In the title role is Tyler Perry, in a rare gig outside of his own filmmaking oeuvre. He’s taking over for Morgan Freeman, who played Cross in Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider.
The first images from Alex Cross have shown up today, and while it’s neat to see Perry out of his Madea getup, it’s really Fox that steals the spotlight here. Because, at the risk of repeating myself, holy crap. He’s really Christian Bale-ing here. More images are below. Read More »

With just days to go until This Means War was scheduled to hit theaters, Fox has shifted its release date yet again. Less last-minute is Summit’s announcement of a fall release date for Alex Cross (formerly I, Alex Cross), which sees Tyler Perry ditching the Madea costume for once. But the biggest piece of news, which remains unconfirmed at the moment, is a possible 2013 release date for The Wolverine. Hit the jump for details on all three pictures. (Update: Fox just confirmed with us that the release date for The Wolverine is legit.)
